Hi
I'm naturally introverted, always have been. I know that doesn't necessarily equate with shyness or low self esteem but unfortunately I have all of them. I was abused and neglected in childhood and I'm sure this is partly why I feel so shy around people. I get my energy from my internal world and have lived inside my head making up stories all my life. What I'm wondering is whether other introverted people (with or without shyness) have speech difficulties? By that I mean difficulties finding the right word, often forgetting obvious words, and getting them out right. I even struggle to form sentences. I think a lot but when it comes to talking it comes out all wrong. I'd love to know if anyone else struggles with this. I'm not sure if it's a typical scenerio for an introvert or if it's down to something else. |

Hi Dreamy, Introverted, shy and esteem issues here too. It can be hard to get what I want to say out, largely I think because I'm so nervous that I lose my train of thought easily and I stumble over the words. Once it starts and people have "that look" it gets worse.
Is that the kind of thing you're referring to? __________________ Bookworm |

I'm a talkative introvert. I have managed to work around my speech issues. My biggest problem is multitasking thinking and talking. So I use a lot of filler words and if you would pick any sentence apart I uttered, in writing it would make no sense at all.
This also rubs on worse on my reading aloud. I can't read aloud. I can look at one word and read it but jumping to the next word and read it too and see the connection and make a whole sentence is impossible. I am told never to read aloud because it is painful to listen to! Hahha! |

i was always an outgoing person only became an "introvert" at age 10 when my mother told me how she never wanted me, how she should have smothered me as a baby, kill me, etc everything crashed in my world hearing that. after that, i became a mute is what i call it. i only spoke to people when spoken too.
for some reason, i have an issue with eye contact i feel you are trying to search for my soul i know that sounds weird. i took two classes in communications in college which helped and i wanted to be a member of toastmasters but that is money i dont have for it. at 10-13 yrs old, my speech became bad. stuttering, screwing up simple words, etc u wont believe the looks i have gotten from people. they look at me as if i dont know how to speak. i was getting better with eye contact but started to stray away again. |

I am an introvert as well. I have the same problem as you, I forget words that I use everyday in writing but I can't make it come out right in speech. I'm a natural introvert as well. Writing to me is many times easier then talking. I think many introverts have that problem, one of the reasons why I avoid talking. But practice makes perfect so I guess I have to talk more to get rid of this(?)
