Not in a bad way. I try to tell myself that I am a good guy. I have alot going for myself. I'm going back to school now and getting a degree. I have friends and family that love me. So, why do I feel so insecure. Why do I look at myself and think, "I need plastic surgery". Well, the ladies don't seem to think so

Hey Michael, I too talk to myself all the time. I have done this since i was a wee kid. I use to get slagged by my family for this. So i invented an imaginary friend called "Walter" Even as i write this i am talking to myself. I do not understand why i do this, but i do. I suppose its a habit i have never grown out of. It is good to feel like someone is actually willing to listen to you. I come from a family where we do speak and conversations flow all the time. But i guess as you said its an insecure thing. God knows why though. I talk about everything and anything to myself. I probably sound like a nutter now sorry guys

Just to make it clear i do not talk to myself when in company nor when outside. I talk to myself when alone in the house. I do not know how to say this but it kinda makes me feel better!!!?!!? Just speaking away.

Just to amke it clear i do not talk to myself when out in public nor when in company of people. I talk to myself when alone in my house. I find it helps a lot. I do not know why i do it. It just feels so natural now that i do not think i can stop it

Hi, Michael, welcome to PsychCentral (PC). I think everyone has a tiny anxious streak going about themselves, especially when they're younger. It takes awhile and some "practice" before we get to knowing ourselves and what we're capable of and how to get to know people and choose not based on looks and it's only natural to decide we need "work" in ways we look around and see other people do?
I don't just talk to myself, I talk BACK to myself, LOL. Get to know yourself as a friend and then defend that friend! When I say something silly to myself like that I need plastic surgery, I reply to that as if someone else were suggesting it. If a stranger walked up to you and told you you could do with a bit of plastic surgery, what would you think/say? I don't think you'd run out and get plastic surgery? Imagine that inner critic as just that, a rude "stranger". Ask him a question like, "and what would that do for me?" and see how quiet he gets, LOL. Our inner critics are usually straw characters that don't stand up to a lot of scrutiny, questions, or being laughed at. Point out errors in his thinking and he'll go "poof," out of sight.

Mike...seriously...You are fine the way you are...why you become sooo insecure i have no idea..it might be from the way your father treated you for one...he treated you like krap..made you feel guilty for you trying to be yourself and happy..like being happy was a bad thing...rather like someone im with tries to do with me...And I think of how im treated by that person And think to myself F you...im a good person. Though sometimes im not haha..which we both know :P . Anyhow if this is about us..stop worrying..seriously...You know i Will love you no matter what and always...I just have my flaws...And feel like i can never be repaired :/ ..which i know some will disagee with. But I will always be here for you no matter what.Another thing cup cake :P ... We have something not many have..and its a gift...lets keep things the way they are...not dread on the negative..or things that could go wrong and just focus on now..thats the most we can do. I have moved on from my rapes..no biggy for me..it was a lesson in my life I learned. Everything in life happens for a reason love...just look hard at the reason and prevent it from happening again. Hugs and kisses

Ya know....If i was schizo...I imagine i would do the same as you. It would be hard to ignore when you hear someone talking to you. Your not crazy..and shouldn't be embarrassed...its not your fault this is happening either..soes..don't stress it

I too talk to myself all the time....i not only talk to myself but instead of watching TV, reading novels,etc... i use to make stories in my mind. I some times get too much scare of my stories and i forget them too fast......because to make another story..........hahahaha
