When I look up sexual abuse all the sites I find don't specify if there must be physical contact. When I look up molestation it can be just sexual advances. Is there a difference between the two?

I've told my kids that sexual abuse is any behaviour or attention that makes their stomach "feel funny"...and that when they have those feelings....GET OUT! I think that the definition probably has alot to do w/individual comfort levels...but i'm a big believer in trusting your gut.....better safe than hurt

All the people I have talked to about what I'm going through say it was sexual abuse. And almost everyone who hasn't been abused say, "That's it? It's not like he touched you or anything." It is so frustrating not knowing what is what.

well, the nature of sexual abuse is so intimate, which can scar a victim deeply and for a long time. there's so much shame in discussing the topic. society tries to "hush hush" it that these crimes go unpunished.
i'm sorry people have "minimized" your suffering. hopefully, you are talking to a licensed counselor about your experience. |

I'm going through something currently that, only just now upon reading jennie's post w/ wikipedia , have i decided to allow it to be called 'sexual abuse'.. though really it's such a gray area, it's still hard to say... but to ickydog.. what happened doesn't matter... it's how if affects you.. try not to let people's comments bother you.
