Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on the Dr. Phil Show tomorrow. The topic is on how abuse is passed down from one generation to the next and what you can do to stop the cycle in your own family. I plan on watching it. Hnpe others tune in as well.
Thanks for this!

Hmmmm here i was thinking it was a good one to skip! (triggers). mind, I don't care for Dr. Phil anyway, so I'd not watch even if I had a tv. He lost me the first time he said on tv that PMS is all in women's heads (grrrrrrrrrrrrr) as is their need for chocolate. I think i was PMSing at the time and bout took the tv out :P

but, yes - my fam is a prime example of abuse through the generations. Of course there are many options to ending abuse - mine is to not have children. The family line ends with me. my lineage is at least 4 generations old.

Wow! I thought I was the only one who did not have kids to stop the cycle of abuse. I do not usually like Dr. Phil but occasionally says something profound.

I may have to check this out, sounds interesting, hopefully no triggers, I don't know of a history of linage of abuse in my family, of course I probably never will because nobody will talk about the bad things, my family is all about secret keeping. I have my suspcions though about my mom's side of the family... since abuser came from that side, and well there are just signs...

I don't care for Dr. Phil either. Of course abuse is passed down the generations; it's about how one raises one's family and what children are "taught" and, without thought, one is just going to repeat what one learned. Good therapy might help but I doubt an hour TV show by a charlatan spouting clichés and platitudes can :-)

i'm not much of a Dr phill person either. but i might check it out.

i also refuse to have kids because i do not want to pass on the abuse i have gone through. emotional and what not. Because it is definitely a cycle and i am not going to continue it. My little brother might but i just hope not.

Watching for content only. Maybe I will learn something I do not know. If it helps one parent who watches as a result of this post, it would have been worth it. Besides, if it turns out to be crap, one can also hit the idiot button...it is the button on your remote labeled "off" or "power". Thanks for reading this.

I liked it. I wish my wife would watch it. It reminded me of my childhood and the generations of sickness that was shown to me growing up. Thank God I made the choice to change and give my kids something different.

Wait, what?! What a load of crap, did he really say that? It's a scientific fact, and that includes the chocolate. How the hell is it in my freaking head Dr. Phil? And this coming from someone who wouldn't have even the slightest idea what it is like. My womb feels like it's about to implode on itself as I speak, and you're gonna tell me that's all in my God damn head?! Piss off!!!

*slams door*

But anyway, as for the topic of the show, I thought my family was the only one who seemed to have this. In fact I thought I was the only person to even notice what was going on in my family. And I think I know who it all stems from too. I will watch an episode occasionally if the topic is interesting, but that's all. The same goes for Oprah.
