if doing trauma work. how accessible should a t be. i feel like mine is so unccesssible between sessions. unless i email something i know she wants to hear. but not to just connect or anything. but sometimes thats important and would make a difference. but she doesnt seem to see it that way. so i just have to try and contain it. and it gets overwhelming sometimes. like last night and today. id really like to email her. but know she wont answer it. not on a sunday. and not tomorrow either anyway unless its something she wants. she is a really nice t and really appears to care in session. and said she was in it for the long haul as long as i keep showing up. i just think i dont exist to her in between. and until she checks the days appointments that im on the list. guess i just have to get better at stuffing and blocking more or it isnt gonna work. as every t is different. and this is how mine works.

I journal a lot between sessions as well as post on here to cope. The psychotherapy board has a lot of traffic that just folks hanging on until the next session. It does seem to help.
It sounds like a good question for your T is "How should I manage xyz between sessions?" |

Elli-Beth has some good ideas. Why don't you think about it this way. When you are not with the T then that is when you can put it aside and not think about it. Now I know that might seem strange, but the ultimate goal is to eventually live without thinking about it constantly and moving on with your life. As you are not ready for that yet, maybe use the time inbetween to practice it. If you say to yourself on the days that you cannot see the T, well today I am not going to worry. All day today I will make sure that whatever comes up, I will simply not worry no matter what.
I have been working on that myself and let me tell you, wow, it really feels good. As you do it let your whole body feel it. Let every part of your body just relax and concentrate on the fact that you are simply not going to worry. As far as your therapist goes, well, she does need to have some down time to for her own life, she does have to set boundaries with her patients. It is not just you, it is everyone. Think about her day, all day long she listens to others that are struggling and some of the cases are hard to listen too. Like you she has to process it and even may need that down time to either think about it or just to let go of it so she doesn't get overwhelmed by the problems other people face. After all shes only human. Open Eyes ![]() |

it is so hard to not think about it. it affects alot of things so i am reminded all the time. but will try not to. i do understand that t has and needs her own time. and i rarely email her between sessions. i just mean that sometimes i need a quick connection with her. but maybe thats not reasonable either. its just that now that im in t the stuff is becoming more in my awareness. but i guess im still need to be able to handle it alone. i just didnt realize that part. i dont understand all of the rules of t stuff yet. but am learning thanks to pc. i am so overwhelmed right now but will find away to deal with it instead of emailing her. i do want a healthy t.

Did your T tell you what she wants or are you assuming?

Suzzie - I don't have a lot of contact with my T in between sessions, although I do know if I am completely overwhelmed I can call him. It helps me to journal or draw or paint in between sessions as a way to get those things out. And I consider PC to be my in between sessions T. Has your T worked on any coping skills with you to help you at times like these? That might be a good topic to bring up if you haven't discussed it already. You can pm me anytime - I don't always have all the answers, but I can listen! Hang in there! I think you are doing a great job in opening up and I know how hard it is when everything is all stirred up from your session and your not sure what to do with it. I wish T's had a magic door, so when we walk out of the session, everything is contained there until the next session. Keep moving forward the best you can!
