as i try to put the pieces together on what did or didnt happen with my dad i was given some new information. my mom said, "your dad would've never done anything like that he didnt even want change your diapers or give you a bath when you were little"....this struck me as weird. and it wasnt said in a way that like "he's the man and thats a womans job" kind of thing. Anybody else find that strange? I dont have kids but Ive never heard a husband/dad say that.

Intuitively it seems that you know something doesn't seem right. I question why your Mom accepted and didin't question, that your Dad didn't want to "change your diapers or give you a bath". My ex husband was like that when my daughter's were very young and then I found out. Anyway my intuition told me something wasn't right. I'm not saying this is about your situation , I'm saying trust your self, intuition. It's a natural gut feeling that we all have, don't you think? warm thoughts. |

I can relate. My stepdad repressed some things that happened to me and he was physically present at the time. Two examples come to mind. One, when I was 14, I tried to commit suicide and he and my mom shuffled me off to middle school that day - although I had taken a bottle of prescription sleeping pills and at least 50 Tylenol the night before. Two, when I was a junior in college, my mom held a knife to my throat and my stepdad was on the couch adjacent to me. Go with your intuition. Talk to a therapist about it, if you can? My stepdad in fact did later end up recalling these events...and was shocked that he could have repressed them like he did. Good luck.
