I do not remember seeing any serious discussion or portrayal of child abuse on television. Portrayal might be difficult; you would have to have a very sensitive producer and a very emotionally stable child to do this, even if the child understood the purpose of the program, and how it might help other children.
In this country, I think there would be a lot of opposition to a really serious presentation. I think it would hit too close to home for many. Some who have been abused would react to it with anger, because they have protected themselves by denying that it happened. My brothers are in that category, I think. It would only be welcomed by people who think that acknowledging the truth in a serious, accurate, and compassionate way would be good. Or maybe I am wrong. Has anyone here seen a good program about it on television?
