this is bugging me bad today...won't use the word hurting tho it's closer to the truth...but i feel weak when i own to that word....

anyways...i posted this in grief and loss but it's prob more appropriate here...sorry i don't wanna repost the whole thing just the bit i feel is....oh nvm...this is just the bit that is bugging my brain today....sorry if anybody is sick of me posting so much in here lately...

"i was talking about being left with amnesia after an attack when i was 11 yrs old.

it took 16 years for little bits of memory to start coming back and i still only have little bits....and i also have ongoing memory problems coz head damage was done.

that means when i see my kids for contact day i have to be told which is which...when my sis comes to visit she has to tell me it's her....

that is what i am grieving for....that all of that can never be changed beyond a point coz head damage is head damage ya know?"

Sorry to be a pain but..... Sorry to be a pain but..... Sorry to be a pain but.....

I do not know about your particular case, but if you have not already you might check the neurotalk forum on brain injury at

http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html

It used to be said that brain damage was permanent, but nowadays as I understand it the belief is that neurons can re-grow, or at least that other neuron paths can be established that take over much of the function of ones that are lost. Learning is possible.

pachyderm....you're a gem! my 11 year old son tried telling me the same thing, even saying that recent research has shown learning to play instruments in particular helps neuro pathways re-grow.

shame on me i thought he was just trying to soothe me coz he knows my lack of memory distresses me and i used to do instruments as a kid and miss that i don't remember how no more.

but now you've said the same thing...Thank You for that, i will check it all out online...

and ty for the neurotalk link coz i do keep forgetting i'm actually a member there til the name comes up.

peace & love to you ((((pachyderm))))

I can only imagine your frustration and heartache when you can't remember your kids names....Sorry to be a pain but.....

I wonder if you had a picture of them with you and put their names next to their faces in the picture? This would give you good visual validation and it may just help in re-training your brain a bit? Also, picking specific features out of each child and assigning the child's name to those features might also help? I wonder if the continuity of specific features/names might help cement it in your brain more easily Sorry to be a pain but..... Then again, I could be waaay off base LOL

That's a great idea! I do have photo's of them all together. I just never thought of putting names next to them.

Unfortunately, specific features wouldn't work as they all look so alike (hair color too) that they are frequently mistaken for each other by folks that have known them from birth. It's a long-standing joke around here lol. But I'm sure if I scrutinize their photo's for long enough I will find something unique about each one....even if it's just a smile.

Also, you talking about photo's has given me another idea of my own....I'm gonna ask for some video footage of them, then I can teach myself to remember voices, body language etc. Good idea maybe?

Thanks again ((((sabby)))) i frequently get so distressed by this stuff (esp when it involves my kids) I don't usually think straight. So ty.
