We were talking about this at my weight watchers meeting today, so I was glad to find out I wasn't the only person who experienced this. I started my new healthy eating plan (prefer that to diet) at the beginning of Oct. As of today, I've officially lost 20 lbs - it's been slow but steady. But almost all my weight loss has been in my upper body - primarily my breasts. I haven't been in to be measured for a new bra yet - must do that this weekend, I'm still the same circumfrence 44 ", but I figure I've gone from a DD down to a C or maybe even a B+. Seriously it's crazy. I have lost some abdominal fat too as my pants are looser, but nothing like up top. It's driving me nuts, it's abdominal fat and fat on my hips that I want to loose, not my breasts. I still have a lot of weight to loose, like maybe another 50 lbs to get to goal weight and I know it will take time, but I'm just hoping my breasts don't disappear altogether leaving me with nothing but sagging skin.

Has anyone else who's gone through significant weight loss experienced this.?

Congratulations on the loss! That's fantastic.

I know what you mean about the upper body loss though. I lost weight significantly first in my upper body- breasts, chest and back, before losing it in my abdomen and hips which is where it mostly was and much to the same disappointment. Not sure why this is but was disheartening and glad all at the same time. Yes, I was glad it was going, but it was so disproportionally odd. Getting the new bras all the time became annoying to shop for and for the pocketbook, but more so good news because it meant I was losing weight.

However, keep up the good work and enjoy your new body as it develops!!! Yeah!

If weight loss will he me reduce my breast size I will be over joyed. That may be all the motivation I need to actually lose weight.

I have heard this is usually the case with weight loss though at this point I have not had that experience.

Congrats on your new healthy eating plan is paying off.

splitimage,

Congratulations on losing 20 pounds, that's terrific!! An old, dear friend of mine also worked with Weight Watchers to adopt lots of healthy living techniques. It has been a life changing experience for her ~ I hope that you have a similar experience as her!

The breast issue is very common. Women's breasts consist of a lot of water and fatty tissue. It's therefore very typical for a loss of weight to impact breast size. I'd recommend continuing with your plan, and you will soon see other areas of your body become smaller as well. It just takes time, determination, and regular exercise. Most slender women don't naturally have DD cups, and don't want them, because it's not real comfortable to carry that extra weight in one small area of the body. '

Regarding breast consistency ~ that's something that changes with age. As we get older, and our milk ducts dry up, our breasts basically become all fat tissue. Whether we're a B, C, D, DD, etc. It does become all fat. That is just a sad fact of womanhood (imo). It takes some time to get used to the difference in feeling. But that change would come with or without weight loss ~ if that makes you feel a little better. *I hope so*

Continue working towards being healthy for you. You do deserve it!

First off congrats on the weight loss! 20 lbs is quite an accomplishment. A couple years ago I lost 35 lbs and went from a full D to a small C. Since then I have gained about 10 of it back (Finally at a stable weight) and have settled into a C. While I was kinda sad that my breasts got smaller, big breasts like that look disproportionate on a tiny body. I think that the initial shock of losing all that fat might seem kind of odd but once everything evens out you will be pleased. I'm so happy for you! Keep up the good work!

My boobs are pretty tiny anyway, but through my different weights they have proportionally changed on the cup size but not by any great amount, but the band measurement seems to change a lot more. At one point a couple of years ago, when I was about 10-12lbs lighter than I am now I tried on a 30 band and it fit well. But right now I'm somewhere between a 32 and 34.

Dear SplitImage,

Congratulations on your accomplishment!!! 20 pounds is a BIG deal! I'm so happy for you. Im also so happy that you posted here because I am JUST the person to give you advice on this. I've spent about 18 months straight struggling with this same issue and I'm FINALLY coming to terms with it. 18 months straight of heart ache, tears, crazy thoughts about my shrinking breasts etc. I've even made several posts on this Psych Central forum with questions to others about this. Here goes.... my breast size significantly changed after a massive weight loss that occurred over a total of 2.5 years. I am now down to a size A cup (32A). I dont even remember my old size because it seems like a millenium (I believe it was 40D or 40C depending on the bra). Anyway, I'm down to a size 2 (sometimes a size 0 depending on the cut) and my boobs are basically nothing BUT its going to be okay. My body fat is now at 14.5% when it was over 30% at one point (I've had it tested this past weekend by my personal trainer so I know it's accurate). Anyway, the point is YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND THIS IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. It's going to be okay. You will learn to love your new breasts. They will continue to change as you lose fat. Your body unfortunatley doesnt pick and choose where to lose fat. Instead, it just loses it wherever in no particular order. Your face will thin out, your feet will shrink and shoe size smaller, your waist, breasts, arms, thighs, butt, hips etc. Eventually the fat will start to come off other places. I wish the fat would stay on the breasts and come off everywhere else but thats not reality. Please dont blame yourself OR stop your weight loss goal because of this....keep moving forward. At least you are still a C! Oh and about the skin......unfortunately this is true. I've tried EVERYTHING to help with the extra skin and I currently take collagen pills daily. The ONLY thing that Ive found that slightly helps is to work out. Lift weights. You can fill the extra sagging skin with muscle and help the elasticity that was lost since the fat is gone.....also I constantly put body lotion on the keep it moisturized in hopes of "massaging"the skin back to a tighter fit (but this isnt working so its just a pipe dream). The weight lifting does help. Dont worry about bulking up....its IMPOSSIBLE ....literally impossible for a woman to bulk up like a man no matter how hard she tries (unless you are taking steriods and are seriously weight training). My hobby is body building and I can tell you that it despite my many hours of training each month, Im not bulked up. Im toned but not big and bulky like a male body builder. Anyway, the fat loss in your breasts is normal and if you start to feel bad, please email me and we can talk!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Decided I couldn't take the ill fitting bras anymore and Additionelle was having a bra sale on - all bras were 29.95. I've officially gone from a 44D down to a 40C.

Been slipping a bit on the diet front as I've been comfort eating since losing my job and being back in rehab, and am no longer able to do weight watchers at work. But I'm going to get back on track this week and try to follow the weightwatcher's program on my own for awhile and see how it goes as I really don't want to spend the money on membership until I find out if I qualify for employment insurance.

But on a happy note - now that I have proper fitting bras again, I must say they're quite perky.
