Has anyone tried the 'Nova ring?' I'm so confused at what birth control I should look into, I did speak with my gyno and she gave me the options that are right for mebased on my medical history (PMDD, alot of allergy issues, and Fibromyalgia. Also, very sensative to birth control pills.)
The gyno said my best option would be the Nova ring. I don't want to use anything hormonal, but the non hormonal IUD she said wouldn't be a good option for me considering it will probally cause me more pain then needed. My husband and I are using condoms, but due to my allergy to latex (and it seems spermacide now) that is starting not to be the best option. I'm just confused/concerned. We are pretty sure we will not have kids (Next time I have an appointment with my rheumatologist I am going to ask about the affects on fibro pain with pregnancy. At this point, I don't think I could handle a pregnancy well at all.) I am just not sure if I am ready for him to have a vasectomy. It was my husband who brought it up first, he seems to have no problem doing it. He just wants us to have the intamacy back. I'm not sure what to do. I know no one can can give me the answer, this is our choice, but I was wondering if anyone had a similar experiences, etc.

I used Nuva Ring for years and preferred it to birth control pills. Unfortunately, the hormonal dose wasn't low enough to keep me from getting migraines. It also wasn't high enough to help my extreme PMS symptoms. I got a yucky discharge from it, but I know women who didn't have that side effect. You'll know whether you're sensitive to it within a month or two, and you can always switch later.
Have you tried using female condoms? They aren't made of latex. I like them, but they are more expensive than latex condoms. Can you use non-latex male condoms since you're monogamous? |

I would definitely try switching to non-latex condoms for awhile. I'd also nix the spermicide. I've read that it doesn't really have a huge impact on sperm, plus can cause irritation and sores (which, if you weren't monogamous could cause a problem because that aids the spread of STDs).
I did know someone who used Nova-Ring, and I never heard her complain about it. We never actually had a conversation about it, so I never heard her say anything positive about it either. |

We have tried using 'non latex' condoms: some brands have been less irritating, but still not 100% comfortable.

I've used a diaphragm for decades. I am also very sensitive to birth control pills, so this was a good solution.

I tried the nuva ring and it didn't help me much. I have PMDD, endometriosis, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Right now I'm on Yasmin and take it continuously for 3 months, then go off for a week. (so 4 periods a year) I've been on Yasmin not quite 2 months now, think its working a bit better than the other birth control I was on. I have my tubes tied but still need to be on birth control for the above mentioned things. Hope you find something that works for you.

I highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I'm currently practicing Natural Family Planning (NOT to be confused with the rhythm method). I've tried so many hormonal methods over the years and I just have too many problems with them. This method takes some education and a little bit of work, but it is soooo worth it.
