I have a problem. I am a shopaholic, and my room is dominated by an endless pile of clothes both in the closet, in hampers, in dressers, and covering more than half of the floor in my room--and don't forget all the seasonal clothes that I keep in garbage bags in the garage. I'm really getting sick of this. I can't stand all the laundry I have to do--I have so much clothes that it takes over a month for me to wear all my clothes before deciding to wash them, and then there's so much clothes to put away that I avoid putting it away.

I don't know what to do with all my clothes. I'm thinking about giving 90% of it to Goodwil or to friends, even though buying all of these clothes in the first place is expensive.

So if I do throw away my clothes, how will I go about choosing which to keep and which to throw away? There's certain clothes that have true meaning for me, and then there's clothes that look great on me. And how do I part with all of my plaid? Plaid is my favorite pattern and I have at least a dozen plaid shirts and they all look great on me. But I love all my clothes and it's so hard to choose what to keep and what not to keep.

How do I go about this?

OH I have done the same thing, and helped a neighbor sort through her mess of clothes, most of which fit poorly, or just outgrown them. When you donate clothes to the thrift store you can get a tax write off. I donate to the the womens shelter thrift shop, those women need anything they can get for the battered women
Thanks for this!

Well, I'm a minimalist so.....

The first thing I would do is empty my closet totally. I would then take out the non-negotiable (those you mentioned that have meaning) and put those back. Then I would put all of the duplicates together and choose the "nicest" and hang up those. The others go into a pile.
If you have similar plaids, then do the same with those...
Then toss the dated clothes into a pile with the exception of classics....plain dark skirts, plain dress pants. white shirt...you get the idea
Take what's left and toss those that are in really bad shape.
Then you should be only left with your favorites. Make two piles, love and like. Hang up the loves.
The likes, go through and try on....there will be some that are less flattering than others. Nobody wants to look so-so in jeans, no matter how much you love them, so all of that goes into the pile.

What about the pile?......there will be some in very bad shape...they get tossed. There will be some in decent shape...they go to Goodwill. And the really nice ones go a consignment shop...

There you go.

I'd bring everything to Goodwill (Or Savers, I'm a Savers girl myself), minus the stuff that goes to a consignment shop. If things can't be sold, they'll get donated again, either to places that make things like car seat stuffings and rags, or go to Africa.

Get some friends together and do a clothing swap. Somehow it was always easier for me to part with cherished items of clothing that I knew were going to a good "home". You can turn it into a fun party and then of course at the end the unadopted items go to Goodwill or charity shop.

If you want some money from them, try having a garage sale. Advertise it on Facebook if you have one. There's an app called Poshmark for android and iPhones that you can sell your used clothing on.

I loaded three heavy-duty outdoor-sized garage bag filled with clothes, and I still had a ton of clothes left over. I let my best friend go through them and pick what she liked and then we took it to a thrift store that doubles as a charity for a women's shelter.
