The doctor will give you a pelvic exam to make sure that everything is okay and then may discuss the type of birth control you want to use with you. Then he/she will prescribe it for you. It's a little uncomfortable but every woman goes through it more than once.

I was hoping for no exam...

Some are willing to prescribe with no exam--mine has. I have a history of sexual abuse and can't deal with an exam yet, but I also have cysts (identified by CT) that cause me problems without birth control. I specifically sought out someone who had worked with abuse survivors. She is working with me to help me be able to tolerate an exam, but she's not holding birth control hostage until then.

Well a different dr prescribed this bc pill but he liked it so said to continue it even after he diagnosed me with PCOS. He did an exam then and I'm not due for a pap until January so I was wondering. I'm hoping he won't...., I'm had called the office because of breakthrough bleeding and horrible pain! I wS told to keep taking that pill and make an appt for December. So here I am. New pack of pills and do far so good though the last two months have been troublesome.
That's why I ask if he'd just wanna chat about it and consider changing or if he'd wanna do an examine.it would suck cause I already had one and a vaginal ultrasound! Too much for me us the upcoming pap in jan ish |

Exams are usually necessary for first script. Hopefully just a consultation would suffice, albeit perhaps they check vitals?

That's what I figured. Im not 100% exactly why he wants me to come in. I called last month about the issues Im having and he said it keep taking that pill and make apt for this month. I just assume its to talk.

In the UK, they don't give you an exam, just blood pressure and weight.

Dear Hallie, I took my daughters and they did not have an internal exam for their bc pills. They did have to go back 3 months later for blood pressure checks. They also saw a female gynecologist because it made them more comfortable. Eventually though an internal exam will be necessary. It is important for you to discuss your concerns with your doc so he/she can reassure you and help you feel safe! :hug

Oh man today has sucked with cramps and irregular bleeding. :/
He changed my birth control today to a higher dose of the same med. Im supposed to follow up with him on how it goes. We figured out the issue though! Lithium can mess with bc AND lamictal! My dose of lithium has been increased since I initially started taking this bc so....that's it! :/ He suggested that I think about getting Mirena. *Because then the IUD will make the hormones a straight shot in my body and not pills which the meds I take/might take affect. He gave me a pamphlet on it so I can read it and think about it. I need this crap under control, I know that lol I name left ovary Gayle (the aunt who bullies me) and my right one Maggie (the abusive stepmother I had)....haven't thought of a name for my uterus yet. All I know is right know Im in some serious pain. Thanks all. |
