Hi ladies,

I've been menstruating for the last two days, and I've noticed that around the opening of my vagina, and even inside, it's burning and painful when I have a tampon inside. I know I'm inserting it fully and in the right angle but it still hurts.

It hurts especially if I sit down or bend forward.

Have any of you dealt with this before?

How soon does it start hurting after insertion? If you're putting it far enough back in, it must be dropping down somehow. I'd change brands of tampons. I used to use Playtex. OB were also good.

Usually after I start to move around.. I just realized I got a different brand of tampons last time I bought since they were on sale. Its my first time using them since buying them.. Could it be the brand of tampon? I feel like I've used it in the past since the packaging is familiar but I'm not sure

It could definitely be the brand. Certain brands are made to expand sideways and other brands expand more vertically. The latter kind could slip down out of place and cause the irritation in some people. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for this!

Some tampons are made with GMO cotton that has a natural insecticide genetically grown in the cotton fibers. Some people are sensitive to it and it can cause burning, pain and even blisters. I'm one of the people who's sensitive. You may have to try several brands to find one that's comfortable. I've had the best luck with Tampax brand.
Thanks for this!

Not all tampons are made equally! The only ones I can use are OB as they are the smallest (length wise). Anything larger ends up hurting me.
Thanks for this!

You should remove it and use napkins for the remainder of this period, as internal scratches make it more possible for a person to develop Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). There should be some info on the package insert, or else google it. You might want to use some ky jelly or some benign lubricant to insert them next time. Also they shouldnt be used if you are too dry, like towards the end of your period. Take care.
Thanks for this!

Yes, it can be the brand. There are some brands I absolutely can't use. Others I have to rotate - it will be fine for a few months and then start bothering me.

I also think that if you take them out too soon, it irritates your skin so that all tampons are just uncomfortable.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for all of the advice!

I had a few of the brand I was using before and I was fine.. It's really hard to just use napkins since my periods are always heavy. I guess it was just the brand I was using. Such a shame.

Tampon actually doesn't hurt much, it all depends on what size tampons you are using. If you are using tampon then don't use the super plus unless it is not urgent.
