I also do not understand the finer points of successful blowdrying. Although i have quite a lot of hair it is quite fine so luckily I don't have to do much drying. Otherwise god knows what it would end up looking like if I attempted to do it properly.

Hmmm ... you get the protective serums to use with your straighteners. I guess talk to a hairdresser. I only use them if I'm going out really.

PS it is not possible to burn your scalp, there is a small lip between the plates and the edge of the straightener, so you would literally have to prise them apart and try and iron your hair ... or something ... hehe.

yeah i've discovered its best to rotate conditioners. maybe i should try a shampoo rotation too...

the best deep conditioning treatment that i've found (for my hair) is kerastase. its expensive, but worth it IMHO. every hairdresser i know will rant and rant and rant about pantene but i used to to use pantene. and i still do occasionally. i got some tigi shampoo and conditioner and leave in moisturiser last time i went and they are working out well (especially the leave in). but need to haul out the old pantene once a week for a change. someone or other (a hairdresser) told me that schwartzkoff was about the best of the supermarket brands because it is salon technology. but you know i think drunksunflower is right that it really does depend on your hair and on how often you wash it and get it cut and stuff and really its about figuring out what works best for you.

i've been thinking about hair straighteners. i know the ceramic ones are best to get and salon quality preferably. uh... how come your hair is hard to grow? in all honesty i think i'm simply too unco-ordinated to style my hair.

mmmmm Kerastaste... HAIR! Expensive, but worth it.

You can do with a hair straightener, Alex. I'm an uncoordinated mess. I burned my face a couple of times. But at least my hair looks good.

lol. okay... i guess i'll have to get one then...

> GHDs / salon strength (GHD = 'good hair day',

yeah. i just clicked... i've had that brand reccommended highly to me too. (by someone who had CURLY hair that she used to straighted PERFECTLY into a bob). do they sell them in department stores (myers / david jones) do you know or do you have to order them over the net???

i really do need to do something...

on a semi sorta kinda related note...

does anybody have an epilady???

i've discovered that when i get the urge to SI waxing my legs can be kinda theraputic... (sounds like i could suppliment that with doing my hair / burning my face lol) and i was wondering about getting an epilady (because i tend to relent and shave the darned things). apparently you need to exfoliate regularly to prevent the old ingrown hairs but... well... does anyone have one???

thats $AUD. i do believe... i'll have to wait until i get a job.

i think i'll wander into town and write down the different varieties and google 'em for ratings and try and find the best quality / price trade-off...

Nups I either wax (summer) or shave (winter, usually).

I think waxing is a quick pain inflicted by someone else. Epilady sounds sore. But it may not be at all ... I am prolly just too chicken to find out HAIR!

i think the advantage to epilady is that you can just do it yourself periodically so it doesn't have to be the big event that waxing is. but then i'm guessing 'cause i don't know. i wax myself (use the cold strips you warm up between your hands) but i typically don't have the patience to wait till they are long enough to wax. i was wondering whether you could use an epilady every week (say) and so it really wouldn't be that painful then 'cause there wouldn't be as many hairs that are long enough for it to grip 'em. i've heard that waxing / epilady tends to damage the hair at the follicle so it stunts growth and doesn't hurt as much. first time is the worst, i bet. maybe wax 'em first then as they start to grow start using the epilady. dunno...

yea idea is that hair grows back finer for both I think.

i have used the self-wax thing (not on my brasilian though!! just legs) and I think they are quite good ... I always miss bits though ...my flatmate and i waxed our flatmates chest once, and his gf had previously waxed it but not trimmed the hairs and drawn blood ... ouch. We were MUCH better :>

> i have used the self-wax thing... and I think they are quite good ... I always miss bits though ...

yeah. i tried to hot wax once and overheated the wax and gave myself a pretty serious burn which put me off that rather. so i got the cold strips that you warm up by rubbing them between your hands. they are alright, but yeah, i tend to miss bits. i don't think they are meant to be as good as the hot wax for getting all the hair out. thats kinda where i thought an epilady might come in handy... to tidy it up and then to keep it all tidy. any pulling-it-out strategy helps damage the hair follicle so it grows back a bit slower and with desensitised nerves so it won't hurt as much to pull it out next time apparently.

you can get other cold waxes... are they sugar waxes??? or maybe they aren't cold they are just a bit cooler than the other sort. i think they are meant to be about as good as the hot waxes though. i think nads was one of those. my friends boyfriend used to eat it and when my friend found out she just about killed him 'cause that is some expensive honey and fruit sugars to be eating on toast!

i guess i was just wondering about how much of an issue ingrown hairs are with epiladys. wax removes that top layer of skin along with the hair to help prevent ingrown hairs but i've heard you can get ingrown hairs worse because the epilady doesn't remove that top layer of skin.

You are so right... SI needs can be satisfied by waxing and things like that... also by getting stuff pierced, lol... but there's only so much one can do. a couple of months ago I got my nose done, and it really did feel so damn good... then 6 weeks passed, and I wanted to change the tiny gem to an even tinier one.... so I did, and then it fell out while I was sleeping. HAIR! and the hole closed up over night. And I want to get it done again... but with starting my internship tomorrow I don't know how well that will go over. At work I can get away with it, but that's because they are used to me, lol.

I get my brows waxed every 2 weeks and when they rip the paper off it actually does fill an SI need... to feel something painful; something that real.

i tried using nair on my eyebrows once. haha. that was pretty stupid.

I wrote a reply last night about hair and straighteners and products but my mom was like WHATS PSYCH CENTRAL so I x'd out. She's quite pissed now? But I never waxed. I have embarassing eyebrows, I barely have any since they're weird. Hate plucking too..

My friend works for Remington (I knew she had a new job but now what it was) and is going to hook me up with some with a nice little discount ... :>

btw she works for the company, but reckons that they are a damn good brand and do just as good a job as the GHDs. Price range from $60 (not as good) to $150 I think ... (NZD).

Well ... email I got re matching hair type to straightener type ... I described your hair type to her as well and mentioned you were in aus HAIR!

It's just a recommendation but *shrug* always good to check em out. I'd do that check on the net too where they compare brands ... I am just gonna get the ones she recommends for me as she's doing me a dealio anyway.

hehe glad u mentioned the straighteners thing ... i usually borrow a friend's if i am having a huge night. i always meant to get GHDs but it comes to payday and it's like ...hmmmm, $300 plus ... I need other things :>

anyway what christie had to say below:

Yes aus have the same range as us

for you i would suggest S8100
for her S8200
the S8200 is a wider plate to get more hair in while straightening

and it's the wet 2 straight as well but works on dry just as well".
