Anyone have it? How bad was insertion?
My gynecologist wants me to consider it bc I'm having irregular bleeding bc my meds are interacting with birth control. He said it'd be better because it's not processed through my liver like rexulti so it won't interact. I am concerned about mood swing as side effect (I'm bipolar.) but he said it shouldn't cause that. He thinks it's the best option for me. Thoughts? |

Well nevermind. Medicare won't cover it at all. Looks like I'll be taking the birth control pills abd progesterone to regulate thibgs

Aww, I'm sorry to hear they won't cover it. Do you have a planned parenthood near you? I know a few years back I got the Mirena IUD with no insurance and it was pretty affordable, they even had payment plans for me. Needless to say, the Mirena was a nightmare for me due to a low hanging cervix.
On February 18th, I'm getting the Nexplanon. My insurance covers it 100% thank goodness. So I'm anxious but we shall see how it works out. Sent from my iPad Mini 3 using Tapatalk. ![]()

Apparently there are grants to get nexplanon if I want to try to get one. I need to think about this.
I am concerned it could mess with my moods as I have bipolar disorder. He told me it releases a lower amount of hormone daily than a birth control pill. Any opinions?? |

My friend has one and she's very happy with it. She did all sorts of research before getting it to decide which BC option was best for her (she's a bit of an A type personality...). She hasn't had her period in a really long time, but she's not dating anyone right now, so she's fine with that. She has anxiety issues, but it doesn't seem to affect her mood any (but that's different for everyone).

I just got it yesterday. I read soooo many good things about it before I got it. But now I just found a wealth of reviews that overwhelmingly say most women had issues with it - mainly bleeding, but also weight gain, acne, depression. So I am super nervous. For some women it stops periods right away, but some have to deal with a year of really long odd periods or spotting. I got it because my periods became very painful. I have UC and since my first flare up, estrogen was really aggravating me.
I think every bc option though is going to have a lot of negative reviews so I'm trying to stay optimistic. People are more likely going to be compelled to post a horrible experience and share it. Women who do well on it might not be as encouraged to share their story. There's so many different methods because women are all so different. I just hate how experimental it can be. So I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

I'm on Mirena, but am not dating right now. My periods are completely nonexistent. I love it. The procedure to insert it was very painful, but the pain only lasted for a few minutes while the doctor had my cervix opened. Also, the speculum was a bit uncomfortable, come to think of it. Speculums are always uncomfortable to me anyways.
I don't know how similar Nexplanon is to Mirena, but I hope you can get it.

I had the Mirena, if you've got a low hanging cervix, don't get it. You'll feel it all the time and the cramping will be a nightmare. I couldn't barely have sex with it in and if I got bloated the pain was a nightmare. Only positive was no periods pretty much the whole 5 years.
Just got the Nexplanon 3 days ago. Horrendous bruise but it doesn't hurt nearly as bad as that Mirena did. I'm finishing up my pack of pills because they said it takes about 2 weeks for the hormones to build up in your system. The Mirena was quicker acting as it's placed directly in your reproduction system instead of though your blood stream. So far no complications with the Nexplanon. Will write again later after a month or so. Sent from S6 Edge using Tapatalk.

Hi I'm new to being in this forum, but I use the NuvaRing and that helped me regulate my cycle due to the breakthrough bleeding I had from trileptal. My periods are pretty much non existent or very light now. Not sure if that helps or is covered.
