Gross question, I know. But...I had x-rays done tonight that showed I'm really backed up if-you-know-what-I-mean (genetics, diet-related). That I have too much you-know-what trapped in there, along with air and gas. Just found this out tonight. The urgent care doctor refused to administer a saline enema when I asked for one, stating that it wouldn't help. Um, that's not true according to all the YouTube videos of people receiving them in doctor's offices.
Has anyone ever had a saline enema to relieve constipation? And, did it help? I'm also going to start doing a lot more yoga poses to help release the gas and air that's trapped, and try to start walking a ton every day. I read that you should also drink hot lemon water, and massage your stomach clockwise and anticlockwise daily, and not drink liquid when you eat. So many changes I have to make to fix this problem, that is chronic. Can anyone relate? What did you do that helped you with your constipation? Magnesium citrate liquid is very effective. Sometimes I take sennosides tablets. I am not particularly fond of enemas though they may help.
Simethicone works well to reduce gas. __________________ The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. anonymous |

I think so. The saline pulls water out of the intestinal walls to soften up things and make them easier to pass. (Don't commercial products for constipation work on this theme?)

I wonder why the urgent care doctor refused to administer one to me when I asked him to. I sent a message to my doctor who will return next week, and asked her to administer one to me at my next appointment with her which I was able to schedule next week. I can't get in to see a gastroenterologist until August, which is too long to wait for a saline enema. If I could administer it to myself safely, I would.
I am not a fan of taking anything OTC. I thought about activated charcoal. But, I don't trust OTC products as the ones I have tried have caused allergic reactions so far. I'm really hoping I can get that enema, to at least soften up what's stuck inside. Since its chronic, I assume I'll have to overhaul my lifestyle, diet, and exercise routine to prevent another back-up like this from happening again. I'm super freaked out about it because if I can't get that stuff out, the consequences aren't good. |

I did not realize it was chronic. Mine is too. Taking Miralax daily helps a lot.

Miralax? Is that safer than anything else? I'm super scared of anything OTC. I know, I know. I have to get over that fear.
Yep. I've been constipated my whole life and no matter how physically active I've ever been in the past, still constipated. If I lay off dairy, meat, eggs, and acidic foods and gassy veggies, then I don't get so much bloating or gas trapped. I've been sedentary for a year so I'm as bloated as a Thanksgiving parade float right now. Stick a spicket in me, and I'd probably squeal with gas the way air squeals when released from a balloon. |

I've tried it all (pills, enemas, miralax, fiber stir in's, magnesium citrate) and the Mag Cit is the best and only option for me. I've had constipation of epic proportions since childhood, have tried a plethora of diets, was more active that most, drank plenty of fluids and ate plenty of quality fiber and nothing helped. Now I'm sick and don't eat well or move as much as I'd like so the problem is even worse. I won't tell you the he'll I've been through with trying to get it out but it's been horrible. Magnesium Citrate is a safe and effective solution if your problem is bad. You drink it then follow but drinking 16oz of water for best results. Within 2-24 hours you will see the cleansing of your life begin and will be so grateful and feel so much better. ((Hugs))

Elsa quick question for you: do I have to drink the magnesium citrate by itself or with water, and if with water, how much? Also,
can I eat something before I drink the magnesium citrate? Thanks for your help! Looks like I'm going to try that route. I did a self-enema last night that only produced a little bit but didn't get to anything higher. Quote:

I've never been prescribed saline enemas. Just regular enemas. Most recently Microlax.
I take 1 or 2 sachets of macrogol (the 13,81 gram kind) a day. Have done so since I was about 6. And I drink a lot. Usually prevents it from getting to the point of needing enemas. |
