So, he's come back with an acceptable purchase amount. What hurts is 3 years ago our home appraised for 1/3 more than what we're selling it for. The economy and loss of income has hurt so bad. So very, very bad.

The thought that we have to be packed and out of here in approximately 6 weeks is blowing my mind into a zillion fractured pieces. I've lived here for 21years and this is going to be a tough one.

Thanks for asking the question, Phoenix. You're always so thoughtful!

Well, as I've shared in bits and pieces, but who knows which forum or thread.

Once upon a time, we made big bucks. We have a pretty nice home in an upper end neighborhood. Even if we don't get what it's really worth, we still double our investment. That sounds like a lot, but over 20 years it really isn't.

After we pay off different family members and catch up on insurance, credit cards, etc. we'll have enough to buy a cheap house in a less desirable neighborhood. It will have to be in cash because our credit has been destroyed. So to answer the question, I know that relatives will let us bunk up for awhile, but not what I wish for, of course.

Of course, the logistics of actually closing, packing and moving all this stuff into someplace is making me whacko. I feel so powerless. And spouse and I are already "posturing" for the stubborn discussions. Those where I resist and she bowls through like the Type A she is.

I think I'll be writing a lot here. Geesh.

Glad you have options on where you can go & that you have the option of buying another house. Just a thought though, would it make sense to rent for awhile, rather than tying up your capital, until your job situation stabilizes. That would mean you'd be less tied down if for example you found a job out of state.

We have a binding contract and he has 10 days to change his mind without penalty. After that, he would lose the $5000 "earnest" money if he backs out. February 28 is our closing date.

Lest you think I'm not grateful for this buyer, trust me, I am. And now I have soooo much to think and do. I may go insane but maybe that'll be a vacation. I'm giving my face new wrinkles that it didn't have before! trudging on.

Okay, his 10 days of due diligence is up. Now we have to find a place to live, pack up and go. I have 20 years of too much stuff to deal with.

I am excited to find a new place to love and nurture but I'm afraid of a new neighborhood. We won't find as nice and safe a neighborhood as the one that we live in now. We can't afford it.

My visits to PC have already been fewer than I like/need, but I have much to do. Thanks for all the support I get here. It means a lot.

Good luck with finding a new place to live, and packing and stuff. It'll be hard, but I know you'll get through it. One day at a time.

Sending some hugs your way (((Notz))). I can imagine it's going to be hard moving after being there 20 yrs. Are you hoping to find another(cheaper) house right away or are you going to rent and then look. I hope it all works out for you and your partner.

We'll close Feb. 28 and we have to be out of here in 4 weeks!

We've been looking for a not too expensive duplex. Actually we found a good priced quadriplex that we are seriously considering. It's an 1930's house that has already been gutted and framed for four - 2 bedroom/1 bath units.

It has most of the plumbing and electrical already completed. And it's in a real up and coming, hip part of town. Real estate in this area has appreciated over 300% in the last 2 years. I can't imagine us going wrong with this. We'll live in 1 unit and rent the other 3 out. We're paying cash and will own it straight out so the rent money will possibly pay utilities, insurance and taxes.

We have a call in to a few general contractors for estimates. If the prices are right then we are off to the races. Oh, and the quad is in foreclosure with a holding company, and we should be able to get it for dirt cheap.

Keep your fingers crossed, ok?

Hello my friends! I'm busily packing for the move to I know not where! Our house closes at the end of the month. We're looking at one place in particular and getting bids to finish its partial construction which was abandoned. It's in a great up and coming area and we can get it at a good deal. We shall see.

In the meantime, we will be displaced and will probably rent something or stay with friend and/or family. Then there's that part about money and a job...

Thanks for the PM's and well wishes!

Very difficult circumstances to deal with. But appears you're thinking outside the box, and have a supportive people system in place. Wish we all could encounter "softer" landings, but life's difficulties seem to offer a silver lining of human growth and new beginnings no monitary value could possibly compensate.

I lost my townhouse in 2008, still just renting...and plan on keeping it that way. Difficult period, but short lived and after that experience committed to remaining debt free. Paid off all kinds of things, which very very thankful for now. Finding myself un-employed again this week after three years of stability.

Seems the only constant in life is change. Best wishes.
Thanks for this!
