I got kicked off of a project at work because my clients didn't have confidence in me being able to deliver. Now in all honesty, I didn't want to be working on this project. It's 2 years long and the client is a nightmare and so is the manger that I was working with.
However, this is the third project that I've had problems with this year, not all my fault but it's being seen as an indiction I can't do my job. I got written up but not put on an improvement plan which I guess is a good thing but i'm still in probation if you will. I have to meet with my manager weekly to discuss my progress with my new projects, but they are going much better then the past three that I was given. Still, I can't seem to pull it together, I know my job is on the line but I'm constantly running late to get there, and I just don't have the "get up and go" that I normally do. Those who have run into problems at work when dealing with depression how have you pulled yourself out of it? |

Well I read your other post about why you are so depressed, so I understand why.
You asked how to cope. I have had to get myself onto a yoga and exercise routine that I get up earlier to do in the morning (I have to go to bed earlier). This has helped give me more energy. I also found I had energy droops so I had to start cutting out carbs and eating a protein rich breakfast to launch my day. I had to separate my personal from business life. I had to have clearly defined goals and check myself to meet my goals. I had to keep my feelings and problems out of the conversation with co workers. I found by noon I was exhausted. I take lunch in the car and with an alarm clock take a nap. I had to go to bed early and practice mindfulness. I battle work a lot. My problem is being paranoid of coworkers and the extremely physical work. It's also very mentally taxing and I know I respond differently when someone dies compared to my coworkers, which I'm sure is my bipolar since I have more experience with that than all of them put together.
Maybe try coffee, I drink a lot to get me through. Also, going for a quick walk around the building gets me moving too when I start to fade. I hope things turn around for you soon. ![]() |

Thanks! I also got some good news about another job I applied for. IT would let me get out of my situation with my current bosses and is something that would be less taxing for me, so fingers crossed about the interview.

I am also in that situation. I am currently in big trouble at work and I know quite a bit of it is my fault. Once I was diagnosed with major depression I realized that was what was causing me to be paralyzed when I faced certain things at work. I'm working on overcoming that now with meds and therapy but in the meantime I am in a whirlwind of drama I am trying to stay out of but is all about me - and that's not my perception (I wish it was), it's reality.

Good luck Apathy123, I hope the new job comes through for you!
I think you've already gotten a lot of really great tips, CANDC posted some really excellent information. I've been struggling too, and one thing that helps me is to break my work tasks down into smaller tasks, and to focus on getting those done. It sounds simple, but if I don't make an effort to do this, I find myself easily overwhelmed (which causes me to procrastinate, which means I get nothing done and feel worse.) I also will use some personal time (Saturday) to get things done if I need to. I'm not sure if that works for you, and I'd rather not do it... but when I was feeling really miserable, I just wasn't getting anything done during the week. Being able to stealthily catch-up on Saturday let me get things done for Monday, which was a big help in not getting on my boss' bad side! (But I don't recommend it every weekend... you need time to rest too!) *good luck* |
