I hate these policies nothing more than fire you when I please. I worked for a very well known insurance company in training for 5 weeks and got let go due to being too slow on the job. Luckily I got my old part time job back.

It was an at will position through staffing. I'll never apply for that company. I have spoken to a business attorney according to AZ law they can let you go any time I'm like why get a job? Lol

I've looked into freelancing but need more work experience and excellent knowledge. Beyond tired of this crap
Thanks for this!

Exactly. All they have to do is just simply want to let you go and you are gone. You don't have to do anything wrong. A long time ago before I knew there was such an at will policy, I thought people who complained about being fired were just upset that they were caught doing something wrong and didn't want to admit any wrong doing. And there are definitely people like that. I know someone that lost two jobs due to inappropriate behavior. But at the same time, I can now understand why people complain because technically it is possible some of them really didn't do anything wrong, or at least not something that is fireable on a first offense but got let go anyway because the employer just felt like it and was looking for an excuse to do so. Yeah freelancing sounds like a good idea. I may look into that once I gain more experience.

^^Yeah, something like that happened to a co-worker. She was getting to the end of her probationary period and they decided not to give her an indefinite contract. I know she got off to a rough start, but she seemed to think she had improved. I guess our boss didn't see it that way.

It was unfortunate, but I can kind of understand my boss's point of view too. When people start, she is really hands-on as far as training and really patient, but she can't baby people forever. She needs people to become more self-sufficient and proactive in doing their work, so if she doesn't seem that happening, it's probably not going to work out long-term.

I have freelanced a lot. Interestingly, I lost a job because the company decided to hire new permanent people and do away with the freelancers. At my current job things are going more towards in-office people too. I started out as freelance and there were quite a few of us. After about 3 months, an in-house position opened up and they asked me if I was interested. Now they are be phasing out the freelancers and bringing more work in-house. None of the current freelancers were offered an office position, even though they have hired more people. So I guess I did the right thing accepting the permanent position when I had the chance.
Thanks for this!

They will never run out of people. This economy is never been in worse shape. It appears better on paper but it is propaganda. Meanwhile your local, county, state and federal employees enjoy full benefits and union membership from your taxes you pay.
Thanks for this!

Hey, get a job with the government. Don't turn on your fellow working man that saw the writing on the wall.

All jobs should have such benefits.

Again, if you want to insure the employers can't do this any longer make sure your reps do not allow in people from other countries to do jobs. That includes HB1 visas, hb2 visas and illegal immigrants. It just makes sense that when corporations as struggling for people they will change their tune.
Thanks for this!
