Evening guys,

I posted a few days ago about trying to find a place to live that'll help me start my dual recovery. Today I went with my methadone clinic to this huge, awesome recovery walk in South Philly, and the right word isn't "fun", but it was pretty awesome and I received ALOT of information like broshures/pamphlets, business cards, phone numbers, websites, etc. on residential services and referal services that help people find something residential. Most of these places are in PA/Philly, but most of them help people out of state/city in my situation (homeless, indigent, dual)! I have alot of places to e-mail and call now, but I'll do it tomorrow.

But yesterday, I think I was actually accepted to a short term (up to 60 days) program called Turning Point which is in North NJ. I say I think I was accepted because when I was talking to one of the admissions lady on Friday, she did say there were beds available and I could get in by next week, but she said something about one of her coworkers being out of the office that day. She did fax some paperwork to me and my counselor at my methadone clinic to fill out, which we did and sent back. I haven't heard back from her since even though I left her two messages, but the receptionist says she's always busy. Hopefully she'll call me or I get in touch with her Monday morning because my last night here at the EISS shelter is tomorrow night, so I really need to find a place by Monday or maybe Tuesday to move in Tuesday evening/afternoon because I have court Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment. But if the place I decide to move to is close enough for me to take the bus, I'll move Monday (Turning Point is too far, so I'll have to go Tuesday).

That's about it on me .. Just wanted to give you guys a little update. Good night!

Way to go on the awareness of your problems and the willingness to do something about it.

UGH, THANK YOU I "lost" my son Hayden due to my borderline and starting using heroin when I stopped seeing him. I went crazy on Hayden's dad Kenny and he got a restraining on me which includes Hayden. I had supervised and unsupervised visitation, but Kenny and his lawyer convinced family court to stop the visitations after my psych evaluation diagnosed me with the borderline, even though the psych evaluation stated that that it would be in both Hayden and I's best interest to continue to have visitation .. I haven't seen him since 11/10

I got off heroin because it was just stupid to be on after a while (on and off for three years), although I still smoke pot when it's there .. so basically once I find a stable place to live I can stop smoking and really start to focus on my substance abuse and mental health recovery .. wish me luck; I hope this is much sooner rather than later (like tomorrow lol)

I hope you find a place soon. I'm from Philly!

Turning Point is in Paterson and it's supposed to be one of the best places to go. But you're right, it is too far from Philly and it'll cost you a lot of money in transportation alone. Keep us posted :=)

Sounds like you are moving in the right direction, which is awesome! I am sure there will be set backs but keep moving forward. You can do it!

Oh thank god! That's the first place I applied to AND one of the only few that'll take me! My intake lady is just waiting for approval from SAI (payment) and hopefully I'll be there by Friday.

All (well 99.9% of the places I talked to, and I talked to ALOT) wanted me to be completely off methadone and wouldn't detox me at their detox facility.

That is kind of crazy. I though methadone and sub were a part of the recovery process in most circles.

Pssshh! It seems to me that the only people who are for methadone are the people who've support me getting off heroin and the clients and employees at methadone clinics. I did the whole FL recovery thing last year, and I still talk to (via FB) a decent amount of peoples who I met down there .. A lot of them have strong anti methadone feelings. Blah, oh well. It works for me and I basically need it, so anyone who doesn't like it that can F off! lol

But, apparently they'll detox you off opiates/opioids or suboxone (basically anything except methadone) with suboxone almost anywhere. //shrug.

My rehab takes people who are on methadone, if they're otherwise clean/sober.

But we're in Canada and not residential, so not much use to you.

Good luck.

Most of the general population don't understand methadone and how it works, so that is why they are against it. If more people understood that for some people it is the only way, but most people in recovery at first are anti everything some don't even think you need an antidepressant. I personally know I would have never got clean if it wasn't for methadone. But I don't mention the word addiction in certain company! I know ...that is a line from a song!

p.s. Think I want to move to Canada! lol!

Yeah people in AA have told me I wasn't sober because I took anti depressants. I just told them they were ignorant and to shut their pie hole up!!!

They really are though; I hate AA, especially their members. I'm alright with NA, but to be honest I haven't been to a meeting in almost a month, and I'm cool with that =] like I said in this or other posts, my mental health is WAY more important right now that my substance abuse issues .. I'm on the methadone, don't want heroin, and I'll smoke pot when it's available (as in if I'm with a friend and they're smoking).
