I have a social anxiety dissorder and up till now it has prevented me from studying and working. However I have just started a new course that I am rely interested in and I am determinded not to let the anxiety overcome me and dive me to quit. I have been for the introductory session but it was hard, but i was proud i got through it, i have been worrying about next weeks session (which is a full day) all week and i usually cant sleep. I was wondering if anyone had any top tips on dealing with anxiety that i may not have heard of? many thanks.ami x

Try the breathing excerise's that really helps. Avoid caffine. If your anxiety is really bad, you might want to get treated for it.

Thankyou. yeah im on propanadol but they may not give me tranquilisers cuz i have a very addictive personality. im going to see my doctor on monday. but in the meantime i have been reading a good book that i would recomend to anxiety sufferers called "feel the fear and do it anyway". also i am using rescue remedy and flower essences, white chesnut and mimulus are good for anxiety.if you have a bath with lavender and geranium oil that helps too. many thanks! x

Hello Amipixie, it's nice to meet you, welcome to psych central.

Deep breathing really helps my anxiety, I dont know about you but when my anxiety flares up I tend to breath very shallow, which actually seems to make it worse. To do the deep breathing, you breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
