i don't know if posting this here is appropriate, but i wasn't sure where to put it. so basically, i'm very obsessive. mainly with people. you could say my main obsession is of danny jones, the guitarist of mcfly. i know it sounds ridiculous and very fan-girlish, but it's been at the point where it's made me miserable for a fair six years now. i get incredibly upset and cry a LOT. it makes me feel useless because he doesn't know who i am, and like if he doesn't care, the one person i care most about, who is going to care? even if i killed myself, he wouldn't know. he wouldn't care - not that it's his fault, but because i feel like it's MY fault. i don't know how, but it just seems that way. but anyway, things have gotten a little worse. unfortunately for me, i have a NEW obsession to add to the pile. judging by my avatar, you've probably guessed. yes, i'm becoming increasingly obsessed with a television character. which my friends are telling me is really strange. i'm not so much interested about the man who plays him, i just care about this fictional character who seems to follow me around wherever i go. i just WISH there was a way to let all these people go, so i can stop being miserable and start having a healthy obsession at least! i can't stop thinking about him, he's plaguing my mind completely.

Are you in therapy to help with this?

Have you ever tried to see what you might be not thinking about by obsessing instead.

I ask the same question - are you seeing a therapist about this? The problem with television characters is that they seem so real to us. They seem so interesting and intruiging, and this draws us to them and makes us want to get to know them in real life. But try to remember, what you see on television is not real. These actors go home from their jobs to a real family, leading a separate life than what you see on TV. I think talking to someone about this might help you a lot

I quite often have to remind myself that stories AREN'T real and the things in them DIDN'T happen.

Don't be ashamed of yourself. Its ok to be you. Obsessing about people (fictional or not) to this point is probably not the healthiest thing, but I don't think it or you are stupid. And I bet your parents wouldn't either. Do you have access to a therapist without your parents knowing?

There probably is a counselor you can talk to for free at college.

I had a very supportive counselor at college, I think most colleges have free, confidential therapists and counselors that can help you or even help you find other resources (support groups, medication if you need it). Just look on your school's website
There might even be free or cheap community counseling in your area.
Speaking of which, I need to be finding a new one myself...I just gradated college and can't see my counselor anymore

yeah and the counselors at college are usually pretty good, because colleges require more background and education than say a high school. Go talk to him/her and I bet they can be a really big help to you!
