I was just "officially" diagnosed as having anxiety (2 ulcers later, lol) last week, along with being bipolar. I know the basics of anxiety disorder, but I was diagnosed with non specific anxiety (Anxiety Disorder NOS), which makes research kind of frustrating. I was just looking for any helpful tips, websites, words of wisdom from the wise. Any reply is welcome!

(((gypsymama)))--When you find yourself beginning an attack, pay attention. Then,
begin breathing in through your nose, slowly out through your mouth--deeeep deeep breaths. Be mindful of the act of breathing, feel it throughout your whole body.

If you have a higher power, close your eyes, and remember, you will ne'er be forsaken or forgotten--you are not alone. "Let go"--visualize being a child laying on a sunny beach, listen to the sound of the waves crashing in.

Just one of the things I try to do to help me with anxiety--theo

Another thing that helps me alot is walking--getting out in the air and walking.

I used to do alot of it back in NY--it's hard to do here though--too hot or too windy.....theo

I find relaxation CD's to be of great help when I feel an anxiety attack coming on. I love thunderstorms and I have a CD of them and it always helps me to relax. I also like the ocean waves sounds CD. It is worth a try to see if it works for you as well.

music is about the only thing that keeps me sane. I have about 4,000 songs in my library and counting on my laptop. I made a a little playlist I call "Morning Chill", and it helps, sometimes.

Exercise is something that helps many people with anxiety. This is going to sound silly, but if you are feeling anxious especially while doing something such as talking on the phone or reading or something, get some silly putty and mess with it in your free hand. It's kind of like having a stress ball, but better in my opinion. I agree with relaxing music as well. Doing anything you enjoy that is calming to you, it can be different for everyone. Good luck in dealing with your anxiety.

I try keep myself busy - even if it means getting up from my desk and going to have a cigarette. I change my focus away from what I'm currently doing and therefore from what is causing anxiety.

I always listen to music - all day long at work. But right now I'm battling with what music is best - the soothing music can start some real emotional feelings in me, and I just end up spiraling into depression.

Hello there, My name's Heather. I am 14 years old and am in 8th grade. I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder in 7th grade toward the end. I had two anxiety attacks and I went to the doctors to see what was wrong. They told me that I have this anxiety disorder. They gave me papers on it and then I took them home to look over them. Every symptom is correct. Not one is wrong. I was put on 10 mlgs of Paxil a first. Then, my anxiety got worse so I was raised to 20 mlgs. The attacks rarely happen, but as for my anxiety, im not so good. I've come to the conclusion that, I have Hypocondria. I worry everyday. I currently have a sore thoat and am nerves that it's some sort of throat cancer..

(((lovePsychology14)))---how about seeing a therapist on a regular basis?---

You don't sound like a Hypochondriac, just someone who may have a bad case of the
"What if's"--which is really just Cognitive Distortions of the reality of things.

Your mind is lying to you, and invalidating your fears----hugs---theo
