I am wondering if part of my depression is causing my wierd fears. I was laying in my mom's bed taking a nap and as I was falling asleep I thought you need to get up and move to the couch because it's on solid ground. What if the house collapses and the floor falls out from under me? I was in the bathroom which is on the same part of the house I thought I'm so fat that the floor is going to give way and they will find me with my pants down.

Why is this happening to me? I hate feeling this way and am almost to the point that I just want to give up.

janniebug,

Anxiety (fears) can often be a part of depression.

I know it can be very frightening.

Remind yourself that you are safe. The floor will not collapse because houses are made of strong stuff.

Try to learn some relaxation,
slow your breathing
and do something that you enjoy to take your mind off it.

Big hugs

Jannie -

Do you think the flooring issue could have been brought on by pictures of damage from the recent tornadoes?

Are you still feeling this way?

Hugs,

EJ

No I've had these fears for years but they are coming to the forefront alot more lately. I had posted this before the tornadoes. I just find that when I get more depressed the more messed up my thinking is.

Hi Janniebug -

I'm sorry these types of fears are plaguing you right now. I hope they go away and mind their own business soon.

Hugs,

EJ

I get 'what if' fears too. What helps me most is to talk myself through it. I just remind myself that I'm okay. I have agoraphobia so going outside of my apartment scares me a lot, but I talk myself through it. I hope this helps. If not, then here.... *HUGS*

Oh yes...I get weird fears as well. Sometimes one fear will be around for a long time, then it "poofs" and shortly another one arrives.

I'd agree it has a lot to do with anxiety.

I am the queen of what ifs.

I have a what if and a made up plan for everything.

When im on the bus, crossing the bridge, i swear I have a plan for what to do if the bridge breaks, dropping us into the harbour far below.

I have a plan for what to do if someone breaks out a gun on the bus.

I have a plan for what to do if someone tries to rob me or break into my apartment.

I hear you on the what if fears. Some of them, like the bus, are absolutely ludacris except for when im thinking them or engaged in them. I also absolutely have an anxiety disorder and depression. I think we worry about stuff more when we are depressed just because we are often so focused on the negative instead of the positive.

Ive got a tornado plan, a hurricane plan, a tidal wave plan LOL

I live in eastern canada, weve never even had a tornado. Its silly, but i have em.

The tornado one made me think because I live where we just had a tornado 2 weeks ago. I do have a plan and when I see red on the radar I get hyper scared. Last night I was finally able to find a channel that wasn't showing the weather all the time just during the commercials and I had a magazine that I was able to pick up then. Luckily all the storms went south of us last night and I was able to sleep. I so know the fears you guys talk about and I plan on talking to my pdoc about my wierd fears and see what she thinks. I have talked to my T about them but he just says think of other things when those pop in your head....ummmm easier said than done.
