Hi all, I was wondering how all of you are sleeping?
I usually have no problem falling asleep but I wake up 3-5 times every night and sometimes itīs really difficult to fall back to sleep, and I canīt sleep in. I wake up/get up at 6 am, and if I take a nap some hours later I only get nightmares. I take lithium, fluanxol mite and Sobril before bedtime, and again Sobril in the morning. Anxiety is bad in the morning. How do you sleep? Any problems? What meds do you take before bedtime? and what do you take in the morning. Restless and tired, grateful for any reply. Polar_bear1 |

I struggle to fall asleep now and when I do only sleep for about 5 hours a night. I try not to take sleepers that often but when the restless thoughts wont stop and I am so exhausted then I take them. I am suppose to take them each night to get in some sort of regular sleep pattern but am scared that I will have to also take this long term.

I, too, have nightly trouble sleeping. The doctor put me on Trazodone, but it made me have quite a bit of stomach pain.
I have taken to alternating between clonazepam, and benedryl. That is until I can get to my next appointment this Thursday. I can read for three hours, and still not be sleepy. If I don't get to sleep at a reasonable time, it makes it extremely difficult to get up on time. Plus, not getting enough sleep means a lot of drowsiness during the day. I can identify with what you are going through. But, I don't think my insomnia is due to anxiety. Though I do have panic attacks when awake and asleep. I think with me it is a matter of racing thoughts. My brain just does not want to shut off. ![]() ![]() |

Yes I too have trouble falling asleep for the same reasons everyone here. The more anxiety and racing thoughts the longer it takes. It can take me 3 to 5 hours to fall asleep and then I wake up every hour. I have yet to find any thing that works good. Either I wake up with a hang over feeling or it doesn't even work at all. Higher doses of benzos kind of work, reduces my racing thoughts and anxiety allows me to fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer, but docs are reluctant to ok benzos for sleep.

Hi polarbear. I'm sorry about you waking up frequently at night. That has been happening to me for a few years, too. It's awful frustrating. I think it can lead to real sleep deprivation that leaves you feeling haggard.
I have been having anxiety when first getting into bed. It makes me feel like I have to get back up. I take amitriptyline, without which I would be up all night till after dawn. I used to take benzos and I wish I could get them again. Though, even when I took them, I was waking up a lot. 5 hours seems to be a common denominator from people I've talked to who don't sleep good. I used to sleep for 9 hours easily, once I fell asleep. Now if absolutely never sleep more than 5 consecutive hours. |

I used to be like that until I started xanax. I actually get restful sleep and can sleep in which I could have never done without this med. I used to wake up every hour and have horrible nausea from anxiety. I would panic at night because of paranoid thoughts, but sleep is much better for me now.

When I have problem sleeping, I find that if I try to force myself to sleep, it get worse. However, if I mentally accept the fact that I am going to be up and might as well ake good use of the time being awake (like reading a book, working on project, etc.), my anxiety lessens and sleep comes faster.
Right now, I am anxious and I know I will be up for awhile. So, I am browsing the forum seing if I can help others tonight. - ![]() |
