I don;t help and I have a therapist, friends, family and I still can't beatr these obssesive thoughts(pure0) They are about doing harm and I do not plan on acting on them. I just switched onto Lexapro from Proxac but how long does I take for some relief ? Life is not enjoyable for me anymore since I cant think of anything but bad obssesions. Can anyone relate or offer new advice?

Hi Ali26,I know how scary OCD thoughts can be as I struggled with violent images and repetitive thoughts .It's great and important that you have support and loved ones near by.Starting new prescriptions is frustrating while you are waiting for some relief but there's a reason for them and I can't tell you how much they have helped me.I don't know your medical history but I am Bipolar,BPD,chronic anxiety disorder etc.I take a combination of drugs but all have some properties that address anxiety since it's symptoms can be so debilitating. It's important that you focus on what's real and good around you and keep in touch with your Dr.There is a light at the end of the tunnel, just hang on.You are in my thoughts.Jill.

Ali

My mother started Lexapro 2 1/2 weeks ago and is now starting to feel the effects of it. I believe it usually takes 2-3 weeks to get the levels right in your blood stream. Someone, correct me if I'm wrong.

Hope you feel better soon.
I know how hard it is to live with those images.

Take Care.

I've had bad obssesions before too. Of course, prior to starting medication and during a medication change. If this one doesn't work after a good trial, there are lots of OCD meds out there. I've been on at least 3 or 4. Paxil has been the best for me. It does get better.

I have had pretty bad OCD for 3 years now and I find that Lexapro has helped a great deal as well as cognitive behavioral therapy.
