I am completely freaking out, I didn't sleep a wink! My husband can't drive for three months because of a huge mistake on the state of PA's part so I have to! I haven't driven since I was a teenager! I am trying to trick myself into believing that feeling in my stomach and the fact that I feel sick is not anxiety but actually because I am excited to be moving forward. I'm not sure how well that's working. The funny thing is I am so nervous about embarrassing myself while couped up in that car with a complete stranger, oh and making a left hand turn through oncoming traffic. Albuquerque has no left turns, only U turns! Anyways, I know you guys don't know me very well yet but this is probably something I would have been happy putting off for the rest of my life. Wish me luck!!!

Good Luck!

I used to fear being embarrassed until I realized that people get embarrassed every day and it is normal and I made a big deal out of it and this is what causes the distress. So now I get embarrassed and I don't make a big deal out of it and now I don't fear it anymore.

Just focus on what you need to do and don't waste time worrying about these other things. Focus and don't allow your mind to go there!

That's great advice, thanks! I definitely think it makes my panic attacks worse when I go out. The constant thoughts of what people will think about me if I do pass out, get sick, fail at something, etc. I am going to try to look at it your way today!

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!! So what if you pass out, get sick or fail at something. Perfection (not being human) is not something that I ever strive for.

Thanks everyone! I was so nervous my bladder felt like it was going to explode and I got super dizzy while driving so I thought I was going to kill us both. I actually knew the guy who was supposed to give me the test and even though I am nervous around him he jokes around and calms me down. Then they got busy and I had this woman who was so mean to me. I tried telling her I was nervous and she rolled her eyes, she didn't speak the whole time, and as soon as we stopped she jumped out of the car without saying a word. I thought I failed and when I asked the guy I know if I did he said "miserably". He was joking but I was so nervous I almost started to cry (which is something I never do). I was really happy though and I have driven a few times since then. I still hate driving and it scares the crap out of me but it's all part of my plan to stop caring if I am scared out of my mind and just deal with it. I'm also starting my classes soon and while I am excited I have started school before and then dropped it when I started to get anxious. Fingers crossed I can do this, I am already nervous about doing the clinical work for my degree and I still have another year before I have to even think about it.

Well done! Driving used to really scare me as well - I passed my test in 2007, and I still find it a bit stressful unless I'm on a route I know well. But it really just takes practice - I find it much easier now than I did just after I passed my test, and I actually kinda miss driving now when I haven't for a while. So it does get easier!

Thanks Rio-I will keep that in mind!
