I saw that they moved this from the bipolar board to the ADHD board, but I just wanted to let you know that I too suffer from ADHD and bipolar

I was just recently diagnosed with it and started Vraylor. I have also been on every kind of med throughout the years, noothing helped but this is the best I've felt in years, although I do have bad nights more than bad days.
Thanks for this!

Adderall and Wellbutrin together helped me a lot, but I'm just on Wellbutrin now which I'm taking with Celexa for depression. It would probably help if I took the Adderall again, but I'm taking three meds now and don't want to add anymore.

Le me,
I wish I had a childhood diagnoses. I probably would have completed high school. Not a G.E.D.
I probably would have become a Nurse.
And so forth.......

Yes!
I've had it my whole life & it was hell! No one understood but oh boy was I shamed for it. I still am. School was a nightmare, beaten everytime I brought home a bad report card when I was younger had to attend summer school were I didn't learn anything, I then started forging my report cards when report cards were electronic then mailed to the home I would simply hide them. But it was horrible. Teachers didn't care, the grown ups didn't care, other kids didn't care. As I grew older it didn't get any better either. I was only recently diagnosed. I know about being alienated I've lived it!
I really want to ask why more attention isn't being paid to people who have adhd like they do with people who have autism.

I wish I could provide you with the best answer.
All I know from my personal experiences, is that I was labeled lazy by my parents and that when I had the diagnosis, I was accused of using it as a crutch!
That was very and still is frustrating to me.

Why people are ignorant to ADD/ADHD is because, the healthy grown ups, in my case, parents, refuse to believe that it actually exists.
Since my mother whom I cut ties with, with the help of my T's advice, is narcissistic in nature, she wants to blame all my faults at me.
She doesn't want to excuse me that my mental health condition was the key factor to many of my poor life choices.

I wish you the best.

47 here, recently diagnosed. It would have made things much smoother for me, like anyone, if it had been caught long ago. Hopefully this new diagnosis will help me at work, where I have had trouble.
Thanks for this!

I was diagnosed when I was 30. Been on meds for about 2 years now. My PNP said it's not usual for women. To be diagnosed later, especially high functioning women, and especially after have kids. I see the signs now in my childhood, and I really wish I had been diagnosed earlier. I feel like I could have been so much more.

I think that's a lot of late diagnosed people in general though.

I'm always dismayed when I hear therapists advise people to cut ties with their parents, I'm surprised they don't suggest you ask your parents about their upbringing, just so you can get an insight into why they are the way they are. My sister is very nasty about my mum, but if I'm honest, my mum was better to us than my sister was to her daughter. I don't think cutting ties should be done unless its absolutely last resort.
Thanks for this!

I have bipolar with attention deficit also. I am currently taking straterra for focus. I was on adderall but I enjoyed it too much and managed to get the amount upped and got so jacked up I was knocking myself out at night with alcohol and trazodone. This was putting my health and marriage in jeopardy and I righted the ship a little over a month ago. No more alcohol and no more stimulants. Straterra is interesting; where the stimulants give you a push to motivate you, straterra helps you steer. It took a couple of weeks to really kick in and the I noticed I was staying on tasks instead of hopping around.

ETA - I looked at this other thread:
https://forums.psychcentral.com/atte...dult-adhd.html
and I am doing a little chin scratching. Is it hypomania that was diagnosed as ADHD? I hid my bipolar diagnosis (first diagnosed in my mid 30s, 23 years ago) and was tested for ADHD by someone who knew nothing of my bipolar diagnosis. I do need (or at least do better with) an attention enhancing med in the mix.

WELLBUTRIN with Adderall has been a God send for me. Go back on it, my friend. Adderall on its own can be effective as an antidepressant. That's what my psychiatrist once told me.
It has saved my life too!

Oh it's it's a long story. It's not a out my diagnoses as to why I cut ties with my mother. It has more things to it. Ever since I was a baby to the other day.
Thank you for your input. I hope you are doing and feeling better.

I wonder why I didn't see or feel a difference in the 6 month of me taking it? It got me wired the first week. After that, nothing... so I went back on Ritalin.

I was diagnosed at 27 when I was in college. It felt good to have an explanation for how I was throughout my life.

Just registered, having been recently diagnosed @60 w/ADHD.....following the thread here.
I'm struggling with the number of meds, as I have several other health issues that require scripts. I'm resistant to starting Aderall as that would make #12. Further, having seen mental health professionals from pre-adolescent, I'm wondering why no one until now has even suggested anything remotely related to ADHD. I get that this is a newly recognized disorder in adults, but having taken some of the quizzes available, I acknowledge some of the behaviors from early on.
I'm not sure what response if any I'm seeking, but stumbled on the site in my internet wanderings, and wanted to express these thoughts.
Anybody relate?

Hi everyone, I'm new today to Psych Central..😊😟. I wasn't officially diagnosed by a Psychiatrist.. But from my symptoms my GP put me on Ritalin when I was about 40ish.... it made a huge difference, I even quit my 9-5 job, went back to school & graduated as a Nurse... Something I know I couldn't have done otherwise...

It's never too late... I was the same as you... My struggles started in about grade two.. I continued to scrape by and make it to complete my Grade 10, but feeling like I was just plain Stupid, Hating every year of School & With no hope of continuing my Education.... . I even had anxiety when I'd have to go to my children's School functions, interviews, etc... Just too many bad memories of school... But I struggled through life & a retail career... Then when I had a bout with depression issues, my doctor seemed to think I could also be suffering from ADD, put me on A low dose of Ritalin, tweeked it over a few months... Wow did it change my life... After being on the med for about two years, I could see how much better I functioned mentally, intellectually.... I went back to school Completed my grade 11 & 12, top of my class..... went on to become a Nurse at age 45...
