For the first time since sometime last spring, I hopped on the eliptical and did a good, sweaty 20 minutes.
How's that for a positive step forward? Maybe this Lithium thing isn't so bad after all... |

Great job! I wish I could say the same for myself, but it's been about two years since I exercised. Reading your post gave me some motivation however, I'm going to try today to at least stretch. Maybe tomorrow go outside and take a walk......

And then I shovelled the driveway.
I think I'll be able to sleep tonight and wake up with that lovely sore feeling that says I moved my body. |

Hi BNLsMOM
Wow!! That's fantastic - that first step is really hard but you've done it now. So whenever the motivation lags, just remember that you've done it before and can do it again !! I am glad Lithium seems to be working for you - it is considered the gold standard treatment for Bipolar. Just make sure you get your regular blood tests done - it is critical to keep the blood levels stable. Unfortunately, I couldn't be stabilized on Lithium so I am on a cocktail of Valproate (suppoedly next best thing to Lithium), antidepressant (Effexor) and antispychotic (Seroquel). So it's great if you can manage just on Lithium. Best of luck and keep up the exercise - that's good for you both physically and mentally !! best wishes happysad |

Actually, I am on quite a cocktail... Lithium 300mg, Trileptal 1200mg, Prozac 30mg, Seroquel 50mg. I take 10 pills each day. Now that I am feeling better, I feel like it is worth it. I am trying not to pin all my hopes on a few good days, but they don't feel like frantic energy. It just feels like I am a little more motivated than before and things are a little easier to deal with. Side effects are subsiding. I exercised again yesterday and this evening I will do some light strength training. Even though I am able to do more, I feel like I am resting. Does that make sense? My T siad it best today: "It's nice to see you not so tormented." |

So I took yesterday off because I was a little too zealous about the strength training. I forgot that I was going to be sore sore sore!
I noticed a change in mood yesterday... I was more anxious and feeling some paranoia. I feel it again today. I plan to hop on the eliptical today to see if I can get that anxious energy to go away. My T had to cancel Saturday's session because he has to go to a funeral. He is so cool, though, because he said that he would bring his pager and if I needed to leave him a message or needed to talk he would get my message and find time to call me back. |

This week has been hard and I haven't exercised. I am hoping to get on the eliptical tonight. I need to remember the mantra, "It's part of my treatment. It's part of my treatment."

I didn't make it onto the machine last night. No excuse, really. Today my son has a terrible stomach bug and I am drained from worrying about him. He may need an IV if he can't keep anything down. We're in close contact with his pediatrician's office.

I'm sorry your son's not feeling well, BNLsMOM. Good for you for keeping in close contact with his doctor. I wish him a speedy recovery!!!
