Hey everyone. Trying to learn about triggers? What sets them off? Diff things? What do you think is your biggest trigger?

Triggers are the things that can set off hypomania/mania, depression, anxiety.... For me the major trigger is stress related to my volunteer job when a client or coworker presents a difficulty. One thing, a trigger, that can bring on hypomania is not sleeping enough.

Common triggers for depression are stress, sleep deprivation, change in hormonal levels, and stopping meds. I found that stress at the workplace is a big one for me. I try and keep vacation time saved up so that I can get away for awhile when I feel the need. Even a day here or there can help quite a bit.

For each person it is different (see movie 1984.. and each person's fears)
For me I stay away from alcohol & mean people at the same time.
Another trigger for me is someone telling me I am not worth living (which could be even in a nightmare). The more you know about yourself the more you can stay away from triggers until you are strong enough. ( I stayed away from horror movies and dark music for 10 years and it helped... good luck)
Thanks

Insomnia coupled with Sleep Apnea (related but different issues but combined -wham!!). I've suffered this a lot over recent weeks as my CPAP machine isn't working properly. My illnesses just BLOOM and my functionailty plummets. I get very depressed and hopeless very quickly.

Also pressure of any kind - I used to suck up pressure in a high pressure career job - no hope now - tried to go back to it last year and within the first couple of days I was sitting at my computer blonked out and practically dribbling from the side of my mouth like Homer Simpson on a bad day.

Being patronised, judged, pissed upon because I suffer Bipolar. Don't even start me!! LOL

Odd sleep patterns and stress are my triggers. Right now, for instance, my sleep is completely messed up and I can feel my mood changing. Not good. I know I need to talk to my pdoc when I get triggered (which I did). I know "stress" seems pretty general, but stress means different things to different people. For me it is usually family stress.

triggers are things that set people into diffrent cycles or moods

I have a varitey of triggers each one diffrent, in a sense I have two seperate lists of tirggers one for my bipolar disorder and the other for my PTSD

for my bipolar disorder I've found lack of sleep will set me off, drinking when I am already low or cycling into a depression, large amounts of caffine, stress, work can trigger me into rapid cycling at times,

I'm still learning what triggers my bipolar, I know my PTSD triggers pretty well,

As for my biggest trigger for bipolar, it is lack of sleep, whenever I get two days of no sleep or very little sleep I fly off the handle, I can't control myself, and my moods rapid cycle...

It's good to discuss with your T grounding skills, or copaing mechanisms to help combat triggers or help soothe them, and how you will handle triggers when they arise, and how to prevent them...

Best Wishes
