I'm reading a book called," Take Charge of Bipolar Disorder"
By Julie Fast and John Preston. It's a rendition of life with Bi-polar through the eyes of a Bi-polar patient and how to help loved ones understand what your going through. __________________ Waterpumpkin "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work!" Thomas Edison |

There are two little paperbacks that I've found helpful; they are not strictly for bipolar folks but for anyone who needs to look at personal feelings from the standpoint how to improve one's feeling tone:
"Keep It Simple" and "Forgiving and Moving On" both available in paperback at Barnes and Noble. Genetic |

Not a therapy book or anything like that, but the book "Silver Linings Playbook" is great. The movie was good, but the book is great. Just if you feel like reading something that resonates but is fiction.

I am currently reading "72 Hour Hold" by Bebe Campbell. It's helping me understand how my illness affects my family and friends. Somehow, that never occurred to me. It's rough on them, too.

Veronika Decides to Die!!! by Paulo Coelho
This is a really good book about the human condition. The backdrop is about a girl who tries to commit suicide but wakes up in a mental hospital. I recommend it to anyone cares to read something insightful. It's pretty short and easy to read. __________________ "You got to fight those gnomes...tell them to get out of your head!" There are a series of books by Mary Ellen Copeland, all of them about bipolar, which I think she says she also has. The books were helful to me in making some order in my very chotic life. Several are about what she calls the WRAP program. It's about initiating and and maintaining order and structure in your life. Her books were a godsend to me! I highly recommend them.

I can feel depression coming on. Last night I googled Winston Churchill because he always called his depressions his "black dogs". I call them that too.
I found a newspaper article from the Toronto Globe and Mail about a book that a man has written about some of the world's greatest leaders, and how their being mentally ill, like Winston Churchill was, gives them a vital edge in their countries' times of crisis and war. He also talks about the richest of the rich, the most successful men like Ted Turner. He wrote about mentally ill leaders like Churchill, John F Kennedy, General Sherman, General McLelland, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King Jr. He believes that these men, although there is no proof, may have been indeed bipolar. He then compares them to men like George Bush and President Obama, whom he claims are simply too mentally healthy to be good leaders during wartime. I went to my local library's e-books website and downloaded the book last night. I read the first few chapters. I'm looking forward to reading this book. It looks to be very interesting. The author is Nassir Ghaemi, and the book is titled "A First-Rate Madness". __________________ Dx: BP2 with GAD and OCD Seroquel 100 mg Risperdal 0.5 mg Clonazepam (Klonopin) 1.5 mg Buspar 5 mg Lamictal 200 mg Coversyl Plus for high blood pressure Crestor for high cholesterol Asmanex Ventolin Last edited by Phoenix_1; Sep 07, 2013 at 09:17 AM.. Brain on Fire My Month of Madness...
interesting book. Personally I think her habits might have caused part of her issues and she may have been hypomanic before her brain got attacked by her immune system. Interesting read if you have had psychotic breaks in biploar episodes. |
