I find it really difficult most of the time to get to sleep at night because my mind races. I have to tell my pdoc about it next appt.
It also races during the day and I hate it. Does this happen to everyone else and, if so, how do you deal with it?

This happens to me alot, as soon as my head hits the pillow my mind starts, my jaw clenches and i cant relax. I rarely get racing thoughts during the day.

My mind is an award winning marathon runner, it wins
gold every night. It tends to do it throughout the day as well People speak to me and I do not hear them. They get upset But I am so far in my head I don't realize they are talking. |

My mind has always been like a hamster on its wheel - running in circles all night with no stopping.
Until I got my dx - my pdoc gave me some meds that actually allow me to sleep all night - wonder of wonders. I wonder how long until they don't work anymore (like all the other meds I've tried).

I told both T and pdoc about it and pdoc gave me Hydroxyzine for it. I take 50mg and play bejeweled on my phone until I fall asleep- works amazing!

In fact I dread bed time, because of this reason and also because I have re occurring nightmares or dreams that I think are real the following morning. So what I do now is I take my mobile to bed and read the forums on here, talk about whatever I need to such as any worries I have that day etc until my eyes are so tired I just need to sleep. I call it my 'ME' time lol. It works for me and helps answer my questions and understand my mental health a little better, so maybe you could give it a go? No harm in trying. I do take sleeping pills but they do nothing unfortunately. I do hope you find a way to relax when you go to bed. Take care JK |

Always. It is the most difficult issue I face in my day. I take a sleeping pill, I meditate, but most of the time I am hypomanic at night. In the morning, I can usually sleep in as late as I want.
I cannot take naps either. I can rest my body, which I need to do because of my physical illnesses, but the mind does not stop.

How appropriate I am reading this at 11:22 p.m. and trying to wind down before bed! No offense. I have had insomnia for years and regularly "beg" my pdoc for nighttime meds. Most just aren't appropriate, won't work, interact or I've tried them and they've failed. I'll try some of the suggestions here. I try something monotonous like a game or listen to my MP3.
I believe this rev happens because as an anxious person I have an entire day of stuff to process. I also know what hypomania and mania does - day and night revs. So it's still confusing to me. |

A tip to relax your jaw (for those who have this problem) is to put your tongue on the top of your mouth behind your top teeth - then you can't clench your jaw...
I tend to get racing thoughts when ever my mood goes a even just a little bit up or down. Just they get nasty when it goes down. a couple of tricks I use are writing in a notebook to get the things off my mind until the morning, reading until I'm really tired, seroquel tablets, and mini meditations - just think about one verse or passage for 5 minutes and don't let your mind go off topic...

I usually deal with racing thoughts during the day. My insomnia used to be a lot worse than it is now... I used to either have problems getting to bed or just not sleeping at all. Now I just keep myself up doing things until my eyes get heavy & I pass out as soon as I hit the pillow! But at least I get sleepy to a point of not being able to let my mind race. : )

I deal with racing thoughts all night long. If I go to bed to early, before I am very tired, they start running from the moment I lay down (if not sooner). They will keep me up for hours if I can't get them stopped. If the thoughts have started I try to do guided relaxation exercises, I start counting, I sit up in bed and look around, or I get out of bed for a short time just to interrupt the racing thoughts. If I get up I won't go back to bed until I am sleepy since I know that is the only way I will fall asleep. I try to sleep late in the mornings if I can to help catch up on the sleep I am losing during the night.
