Less than a month ago, I was at the mall and left my purse on a chair in the middle where the food court is. Luckily, someone turned it in to security pretty quickly.

Then today, I was at the mall AGAIN and AGAIN, I was walking through a department store and went, "*GASP!* Where's my purse!" to my friend. I ran back to the bathroom- not there- then the kitchen store- not there- and I kept fixating on the bathroom. So I reported it to the security. As we were walking to the stores, all I could see was people. Seas of people, any one of which could have my bank card and my kids' cards, gift cards... My friend and I check trash near the entrance and inside near the bathrooms. We went out to the dumpsters near where I'd been in Macy's trying on capes. I called and reported it to the police. Told them all the cards that were in there, social security cards, everything! Then, as we were looking some more I a memory flashed in my mind of hanging the purse on the rack I'd tried the cape on. I RAN. I found an employee as I couldn't remember where that section was. She told me to go upstairs to the offices. Just after I told them what my purse looks like, my friend called: "I've got it!" I ran downstairs. Yup. He had it. Whew!

I was still all worked up. Right now, we're at starbucks. Darn that I can't drink or we'd be at a bar. lol

Is this just flake brain on higher meds or do I need to implant my wallet inside me?

yeah I would go the implant! or get a purse tattoo

what a relief...I hate it when that happens.
things like car keys and wallets or purses cause so much stress but then on the flip side the elation when the offending item is re-discovered is awesome...almost euphoric. weird that but maybe not so.

shopping I expect can be a distraction and I often notice people leaving things behind.

we have these automatic checkout machines at the supermarket and I so often withdraw money and then walk off without it and my card! and then the staff have to chase me down the mall and I feel like a dumbass

I obsessively keep my wallet in left front pocket and keys in right front pocket of my pants and check constantly, people probably think I'm playin' with myself!
Thanks for this!

A fanny pack, perhaps? Something big enough to hold the i-pod and the cell phone?

I loose my purse, cell phone and anything I have in my hands all the time. I've seriously considered buying bulk velcro and velcroing it all on. Glad you found it tho. Total panic forsure. I dread that.

Heheh, James, I do stuff like that at the regular check out lines! "Don't you want your --fill in the blank--?" "Nah, just wanted to stand in line to hand you some money!" "Or simply watch you take the cash-back money out of the register and walk away". Lol. And YES on keeping things in exactly the same place all the time. And constantly checking anyway.

Generally, this is "just" an anxiety-producing embarrassment. BUT the last time I thought I lost my wallet... had a full-on -- and I don't mean maybe --public breakdown freak out melt down. Over a good portion of a small town. Horrifying. As a result, my wallet is on a "leash" connected to my bag. Yeah, makes me feel like a dumbass every time I see it, but I never ever want that to happen again. Of course, it didn't totally cure me. One time realized it was swinging around down by my knee. Yeah. Outside.the.bag. Good grief.
