I was thinking about juicing or doing something like this and was wondering if you guys had any experiences?

Apparently I hate vegetables enough that I actively avoid them and 'dieting' is not working/never will for me.

I watched a documentary that said even though I may full, my body is still feeling starved. A lot of the side effects you get from meds, you can also get from a poor diet. Plus

However, they brought up juicing as an alternative to actually eating vegetables and that you can add a little sugar/fruits in to make the drink taste better. I'm thinking about getting a cheap blender (for now) until I can afford an actual juicier.

I may be working at Mcdonalds starting tomorrow (interview!) so I need to get better habits before I work in the fast food joint. I know I would overeat there. X_X

Well the documentary was right.

Whether you eat the fruits and veggies as a solid or liquid, you still get all the nutrients and vitamins they contain.

You actually get more from the juice than you would if you ate the food cooked, as cooking leaches out or destroys a lot of the nutrient content.

And you can consume a lot more fruits and veggies with juicing. For example, you could take a couple apples, some carrots, blueberries, spincach and/or any other combo and drink it down no problem. Just think what it would take to eat all that whole.

Go for it!

That sounds like a splendid idea. Good Luck with it, I imagine eating or juicing will help your mood. And I have to be honest by looking at just the title I was thinking steroid use would be involved. lol

Heh, I didn't even THINK of THAT! It caught my eye because one of my housemates has been juicing for a few weeks now.

So what have a learned? Yup on the vitamins and healthy values of it. She does it for her dinner. That way she gets a nice light meal with a lot of nutrition each day w/o overdoing it. It took her a bit to get used to it and I think one of the reasons she is so good with it is that she's not shocked her system with a total 180 and knows that so there's no real feeling of "deprivation" or over-regimentation. She's put all different sorts of combos together, so every night it's a different flavor so as not to tire of it either.

What is your plan in how to use the blender? Some kind of strainer or cheesecloth?

I think with a blender you will be able to retain fiber, but I am not sure. The main issue is to be able to retain fiber - have purees as opposed to plain juices.
Thanks for this!

You are very correct. It would be closer to orange juice with heavy pulp.

The skins of many fruits and veggies contain the most vitamins and nutrients. This is a con to actual juicing because the juice it produces does not include the skins.

So if you're ok with chewing a little, blending actually sounds like a better idea.

I would start with V8 or/and V8 splash until you lean to make a good juice. I can't stomach juiced vegetable.

I actually hate the taste of V8. I've tried the fruit ones before and didn't like them, either.

I'm not completely sure yet...but I know there are blogs and stuff on how to make juiced things. I know that I'm not really eating vegetables so if I can drink it in a cup that would be awesome. >_>

I tried carrot juice and thought it was gross, too.

this.

actually i think it would be unhealthy to consume mostly juices and not the whole thing.... because of the missing fibre.

blended whole oranges are very aromatic and quite bitter though.

My first piece of advice is to find a good multivitamin and start taking that. You'll feel a huge difference after a month of taking a good multivitamin. They range from modestly priced to insanely expensive. The brand that I use is called Vitamin Code and there's one for adult females.

Next thing to consider that's along a similar line are supplements. There's a thousand selections, with the most popular being Vega One but there are cheaper ones. However, quality of supplements really do differ with price. If you go to a store that specializes in supplements (there's a LOT these days with our health obsessed culture) and tell them what you're looking for along with price, they'll have recommendations. As a bonus you can also mix these into your juices and smoothies and such.

As for juicing, a blender will do. Not only is it cheaper, you retain more. If you really want to make juice with a blender, you can use a very fine mesh strainer or a cheese cloth to filter the pulp and bits out. However, I'd recommend just watering it down instead of straining the good stuff out. Besides, you can make smoothies with a blender and you can't with a juicer.

Most veggies aren't going to taste great blended although some blend together well. Mainly spinach, kale, cucumber, celery, and carrot, but anything else that you're fond of. Some mixes I like (although I'll admit I much prefer eating my veggies than drinking it):

Kale, cucumber, fresh lemon juice, parsley, spinach, touch of ginger

Kale, apple, lemon (really popular now days)

Carrot, apple, beet, fresh lemon juice

Just try mixing and matching with the veggies I suggested with fruits with lots of water in it like citrus fruits. Use a bit of honey or agave syrup as sweetener if you need it, and add water where necessary. Have fun and don't poison yourself! :P
