I saw my pdoc last week and she was displeased when I told her I was seeing my therapist every two weeks. She told me to start back seeing my therapist weekly because even though I've had a med increase it takes a few months for the meds to really help (help with depression).
I met with my therapist today and we decide I have made enough progress to continue being seen every two weeks. Those that go to therapy, how foten do you go?

I go individually every two - three weeks but T knows hour by hour what's going on with me through the chart she has me fill out. I drop it off whenever I'm in the building. I practically live in that stupid building. Judging by the call I got today it looks like I may have been upgraded to every 7-10 days. I wouldn't mind seeing T weekly if I could but I don't feel I need to.
I also go with my husband for couples therapy opposite weeks. I sit in my husband's therapy which is every 2-3 weeks. About 30 min a month of my son's therapy. Family therapy as needed.

I go once a week, which is great. But I have been thinking about cutting back to once every 2 weeks.

Currently I'm in a day treatment program, and I guess that counts as therapy, so everyday? :P I'm discharging soon though, and once I do, I'll be going to therapy weekly and see where I go from there.

I go weekly for an hour. I think this is fairly standard.

Thanks everyone----seems like weekly or every two weeks is common. Is there a goal for us to one day not need talk therapy?

Currently every week. I did switch to every other week for a bit (and then my therapist got sick so I haven't seen her in close to 3 weeks) but I haven't been feeling very well - I think I'm dealing with a mixed state, or at least some kind of anxiety/depression roller coaster thing. So I asked if we could go back once a week until I'm feeling better. Partly I like having the structure built into my week - Tuesdays I go to the library, Wednesdays I go to knitting club, Friday therapy.

There is a therapy for bipolar, called Social Rhytm (or Rhytms) therapy. The point is to achieve precisely the structure and the cyclical pattern that you have achieved.

The goal for me is to not necessarily get out of therapy but rather do better and get where I can handle things so I can cut my therapy down some and cut out some of these meds.

I went weekly for around 2 years. Then about a year ago my T and I decided every 2 weeks would work or if needed numerous times a week for me it's flexible. I use to wonder when/if/should/can stop therapy.. I no longer wonder or worry about it.. When/if the time comes to leave Therapy I will deal with it then.

I went to therapy weekly for a long time. Then I went on Seroquel which really leveled me out (I stopped taking it because of the weight gain). So now I'm every other week. However, do to some recent problems I might need to go back to every week.

I used to go like, monthly. But.... I don't need any right now. Well, I might need it now, but for awhile, I was just fine. I only go when I think I need to really talk to someone who can help me. My pdoc doesn't really care anymore. He knows I'm stubborn and won't listen. I'll only go if I feel I need to. But, with how stressful life has gotten recently, I might ask to go again.

Now that my meds are working correctly, I only go approximately every three weeks. My pdoc agrees that this is sufficient for now. When I was cycling and going to some bad places in my mind, I was seeing the t every week and the pdoc every two weeks. I have considered quitting altogether, but we have some other family issues, non-bp related, that I work on now.

I'm seeing my T ever other week and my pdoc every week in between there, for now. Been in a mixed episode that wasn't responding to meds. Usually, they let me go months in between, though.

I go monthly. I found it odd that my last appointment my therapist said if I wanted I could go every 5 weeks.
I am going through a med change so I don't think I should go with her suggestion.

After today I might agree with my pdoc. I started crying in the grocery store. My day was going good. I wasn't think abt many particular thing. It took me a few minutes to pull myself together. I tried to think abt my thoughts so I could prevent another crying episode.

Wow. I'm an oddity here. I go twice a week, and would go more often if I could. I see my Pdoc every 8-10 weeks (all pdoc does is prescribe meds.) My goal with therapy is to get to the place where twice a week is enough, and eventually get to a place where once a week is enough. I'm a long way from there right now, but both T and I know that eventually, I'll get there.

I used to go once a week for about a year, but neither CBT nor DBT were really effective for me whatsoever and my Asperger's made it more difficult to be compliant with these treatments, especially the group DBT as I just couldn't function with other people present at the weekly therapy sessions.
So now I don't go to therapy whatsoever, I just go and see my social worker every now and then to discuss things and see a psychiatrist about once every month or so to discuss my medication. RB.

Never.
I tried it a year ago for a few months, once a week, didn't think much of it and quit. These days when I'm struggling, I hate admitting I wish I had a T, but then I'd only ever see the person on an as needed basis. It's otherwise way too time consuming for my liking; considering the fact that it would only ever be for 'spilling my guts' purposes. And when the storm is over the next day, I wonder WTF I was thinking wishing I had a T anyway ![]()

I only get a few visits paid for a year so when I have to go weekly at the beginning of the year like I am now I start to get nervous.

I go once a week but I have only been seeing this psychotherapist for about 9 months. I am making huge progress so I'm not going to change.
At one point I thought maybe 2 times a week but I don't have the $$ or the commitment for more than once a week. So I guess it all depends on how "happy" or "normal" you are feeling. Just make sure you are not cutting back because you are coming to a place in your therapy you don't want to go or makes you uncomfortable. EagleNebula
