I have had bi-polar for about four years now, and I feel like I still got a thing or two to learn about coping with it. I recently saw my PDoc, and he just told me to get my sleep regulated. Don't worry, folks, I googled "Better sleep" and intend to put that to practice.
Also I do mood journaling. I am going back into therapy next year. So, somebody tell me, is there anything else I can do? I take my medication regularally too, by the way. |

The only other thing I can think of is to watch your stress level and not let it get out of hand.

I have found that cutting out as much sugar and caffeine as possible helps. Definitely agree with gayleggg about stress as I have seen it play a huge factor for me.

Use a principle from the 12-step programs: HALT
Never let yourself get: Too Hungry Too Angry Too Lonely Too Tired I know it's hard, and I myself don't do a particularly good job of it, but it's a great principle if you can put it into practice. ![]()

Mindfulness meditation and spiritual awareness has helped me immensely. I also chart my moods, medications, and hours of sleep. It helps me detect trends in my moods in response to certain triggers and predict impending mood episodes.
I abuse stimulants because I love inducing hypomania but am trying to stop because true mania is no bueno. |

I've learned there are different types of bipolar. I don't have extreme highs, but my lows are extreme. My moods can cycle very quickly, often several times a day (rapid cycle bipolar), not weeks or months.
I just started taking Lamictal and have found it very helpful. |

I just go with the flow. Coping is my middle name. Just try to make the best of any situation and you will be ahead of the game.

I have a huge amount of coping skills I use. Sleep, stress reduction and a healthy diet are vital. You need to find out what works best for you. It could take years - it took me years, but now bipolar-wise I am going great.
I am only now starting to get the good effects from meditation but it took a long time. Mindfulness has been really helpful too - focus on the now, the moment right now and nothing else. Sometimes its still hard to do but the more I do it the easier it becomes. Also being organised helps with my stress levels. For me large amounts of alcohol is bad, small amounts, no problems. |
