That sounds very scarey......
I can relate totally...
When I became psychotic many years ago(during a manic phase) I hallucinated and saw ghosts in faces on tv, paper etc.
It was not fun at all.
Seroquel saved me from that awful time.
Do you have some psych meds to help...does it happen often?
I am BP1 and don't hallucinate any more...I jsut become delusional/paranoid/anxious now if I am getting manic....
like a dysphoric mania....

Do you have a DX of Bipolar? Is your question in relation to this disorder?
I think fatigue can mess with our minds, even people without any mental disorders. It would be best to take this up with your pdoc, to see if your meds need changing or dosages changed.
Lots of luck with this.

When an 11 year relationship of mine broke up, I couldn't eat or sleep for 5 days. (I had no Temazapam at the time). I began to have auditory and visusal hallucinations and had to be hospitalized for 2 days. I was immediately put on Xiprexa to terminate the delusions and of course lithium and adavan. They said it was a combination of my BP, my shock of how the relationship ended, but most of all it was my insomnia. 3 days of lack of sleep can cause delusions even in a person who does not have BP. Other times when I've had 2 days of no sleep, I also begin to start hallucinating. When I sleep great, I never have them; and I don't have the television type when I did ;however, my mom did.
I realize delusions can be part of this disorder, but it seems to me it's when I lack sleep they arrive. Woods, how much sleep are you averaging a night and like Dark Eyes said do you have a dx of BP? Maureen

When I asked my family physicain about this when I have this problem he told me the technical term for this is called - sleep depravation

Sleep depravation can happen to anyone anywhere regardless of if the person has a mental disorder or not and is on medication or not and the only reason behind it is that the person is not getting enough sleep.

I am not bipolor and not on psychotropic medication and have no interest in obtaining psychotropic medication but when I get tired I see snakes and spiders.

I'm very sorry to hear that you are struggling with your sleep.

If your body goes for an extended period of time without getting rest, that is not good. It will take it's toll on your mind and after a period of time, hallucinating is something that can take place.

If you are going days without sleep, that is very dangerious. SLeep is so important for someone who suffers from a mood disorder. Lack of sleep can cause a mental breakdown. No Sleep will also keep your medication from working properly if you are on any. I have learned that the hard way. Do you have a doctor that you can go see (or perhaps call since this is serious?)

I know what it's like. I've been suffering from insomnia since I was a kid. I hope you get some rest soon!

woods,
I am bipolar with psychotic features. on occaision, I will smoke pot with my best friend. I have found since then that I have much worse hallucinations (auditory) when I have smoked. The voices I hear come in clear as a bell. And they are really scolding me! I truly do not recommend smoking mj if you have any kind of bipolar symptoms. It will exascerbate the issue and you will regret it. I have learned this the hard way after many nights of fighting off the voices and delusions. I quit smoking with my friend and she doesnt offer it to me any more. I hated that feeling so much so I gave it up, not to mention it effected my anti-psychotic meds. Trust me.... it's worth it.

out to lunch
