I just did my latest increase of lamictal on Tuesday. At first I just had the loose stool like I had at the begining of every increase but today I woke up with blurred vision and dizziness. Any one here tell me if this is a temporary condition? Its the holiday here.
I take; 200 lamictal 20 latuda 10 propranolol x3 1 prozin 10 ambien .5 synthroid

Why are you on so many meds? A lot of drugs combined can increase the risk of side-effects. I don't know why so many pdocs seem trigger-happy with the drugs. Maybe I'm wrong, but also know there are a lot of crappy psychiatrists out there.
Anyway, it's hard to pinpoint when you are on a big list of pharmaceuticals, but for many people the side-effects of Lamictal go away after a few days or so of the body adjusting to the new dose. Dizziness is fairly common, and hopefully will subside. When I first started Lamictal, I had a few minor side-effects, but now they are all gone, Exocet for the increased thirst, but that could be coincidence with the heat of summer. Blurry vision, dizziness, tiredness, and a few other sides are considered "minor" unless they persist or bother you. None of the side effects you listed are considerd serious.

I had blurred vision from lamictal which turned out not to be temporary. I was only on 100mg though, and I was put on that VERY fast (within two days). Hard to say if the fast titration caused the problem. But I discontinued it after a month anyway.
I would give it time to see if the blurry vision goes away. Don't know about the dizziness though.

Thank you, its good to hear that this is most likely temporary. It is quite disturbing to be so dizzy and hare brained...for instance I tried to reply to this via email and I keep pushing the wrong buttons and thank goodness for spell check.
They plan to take me off the latuda and ambien once im stable.

I.am on lamictal and have no side effects. They should go away within Week or so. Give it time. I'm on four meds and I have excellent stability. Sometimes people.benefit from a combo of meds so do what yr pdoc suggests. Sometimes it takes more than one or two meds to help us. So I don't agree that a few meds are bad for you. Do what works best for you. Take care.

I had a couple problems with one adjustment, one was with vision --the other I can't remember, lol, it's been awhile. It was when it got upped from 300mg to 400mg. I'd been taking it for at least a couple of years at the time, at various dosages adjusted from time to time.
Anyhow! When it was split into taking it 2 times a day (200mg in morning, 200mg at night), instead of all 400mg at once, the problems went away right away. It may well not be the case for you as it is a much lower dosage, but it's something to consider. ![]() |

I see you're on Propranolol. Have you had your blood pressure checked. It could be a drop in blood pressure.

I'm so glad I read this. A few days ago I started taking 100mg (lamictal) in the morning as an increase from 200 at night for a total of 300. The third morning I was on it, after about a 1/2 hr i got terrible blurry vision and couldn't walk straight. That lasted 2 hrs. Since the increase is such a low dose, I'm skipping it today because I have to drive. I didn't know it is temporary. My doc didn't mention that, and he usually tells me if a side effect may occur. I called his office and left a message that I was only going to increase it by 50mg now. I can't sit around the house all day waiting for this to pass.
I think you should talk to your doctor about the meds you're on, and why so many. It does take a combination of meds to control BP, but I would look them up and see if two of them do the same thing so I could ask if I could be taken off one of them. I asked my new psychiatrist for a med overhaul and he changed mine. Maybe you need an overhaul, too. If he is unwilling to discuss meds with you, I would find another one who will work WITH you, instead of withholding a rational discussion. |

You are supposed to increase it slowly, 25 mg/week increase is the recommended titration schedule.
But once you get up to 100 mg, I think you can increase it by 50 mg/week. My Pdoc said never to increase more than 50mg/week to keep side effects down.
