So, I'm out of work right now on short term disability (STD) but they only agreed to pay me through Feb. 11th. until they get more info. Here's the problem. They want the session notes from my pdoc so their pdoc can evaluate it. My pdoc and I see it as an invasion of privacy. We are willing to give them the diagnosis, meds I have been prescribed, dates I have been to see my pdoc and a certification letter from my pdoc stating that at this time, I am not well enough to work yet. I am so stressed about all of this. Not only am I dealing with being bipolar II and all it entails (severe depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, etc...) but now I have to worry that I won't have any money to pay for my pdoc or meds. Who do these insurance people think they are? I'm thinking in order to make it go away, I'm just going to let them have it all. Any suggestions?

Hello Thomi.
I am soory to hear that you are having all of these problems at this time. Can you get a case manager to help you at your Psych office. a Case manager can help be an advocate for you in this situation and make sure the insurance company gets the information they need to help keep your benefits going, and help you with other issues that may arise in the future. Can you apply for other government assistance such as housing, and food stamps? Salvation Army if in your area can help guide you to community resources, (food, clothing, shelter, rental and utility bill assistance) that may be helpful in your case. There are also Free Med Programs as well such as Free Medicine Program.(type in Freemedicineprogram) and click on contact us. This will bring up a screen with the 1-800 number to call to get an application to give to your dr for Free or lower cost medication. Take care Soidhonia

I hate to say this, but you are going to wind up with your medical records scatttered everywhere if you have to keep seeking help because of your condition. I'll bet that I gave out releases in at least ten different places, including doctors, Social Security (twice), voc rehab and drug assistance programs. That is just the way it is. Think about it this way...your company's pdoc is bound by all the same rules and regulations that your own pdoc is. Also, wouldn't you want their doc looking at your doc's DX, rather doing one himself?

This is my own opinion, but if you're needing help, I would think you would be as co-operative as possible. If you give them what they need to do their jobs, you have a much better chance of getting help in a timely manner.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it. Yes, I have a person from the company I work for who keeps track of my paperwork and makes sure the insurance company gets what they need. I will be agreeable and cooperative, thank you for the support! It's funny, I used to be the case manager assisting others and advocating for them. It's a whole new experience being on the receiving end of services. Thank you so much for your help.
