Can people please share their experiences with this.
Is 300mg the only dose for Bipolar 2 or is it possible to go lower? |

Hi MrMisdiagnosis
Personal experience with Seroquel? Sure. Weight gain. So it's a case of mental health and body concept. That's my experience. ![]() |

I was originally diagnosed BP 2 and was on 400 mg of Seroquel. Then I progressed into BP I and was on Seroquel again at 400 mg. I'm not sure the answer to your question, it may just depend on the person. Me personally, if I'm off of Seroquel I go into a mixed episode, and I only sleep 2-3 hours a night. Do you not like the Seroquel? I hate it, I'm going to see if I have any other options, doubt it in my case.

It wasn't to bad for me, but after about a month I suddenly gained 5lbs in 2 weeks even though I was closely monitoring my diet. Under normal circumstances, I would have been losing not gaining. Other than that it was good for me. I can't remember what dosage I was taking.

Lower doses of seroquel are more sedating. As the dosage increases it acts as an AP and mood stabiliser to an extent. I was stable on 900 mg XR for a couple years before I dropped it and spent 6 months hypo manic before turning mixed and going back on meds. 400 mg and up is usually a stabilising dose depending how you react to meds.

I just started Seroquel a little over a week ago. My doc is titrating me up. I started w/ 50mg for 2 days, then 100mg for 2 days, then 150mg for 4 days, 200mg for 4 days (this is where I am right now), then I'll be on 300mg and see how I'm doing with that.

There is straight Seroquel and Seroquel Xr two very different medications as to how people can react to them.
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume your on the XR. Altho that medication gave me the best sleep in my entire insomiac life and slowed my brain down a first in my lifetime also.. As I am anorexic, No way to tolerate the weight gain despite my not eating more and the constant deep down hunger even if your so full of food you couldnt fit in a single tic tac , you will try anyway.. I gained weight ,it had to go. Damn shame Big Pharma churns out medications that not only cause physical problems that weight gain always brings but our self esteem is often already fragile. Altho they have spit out a few that do seem more " weight neutral" than most in the past 10 years. There are always options to try.. back when I took Ap's and what not I found Invega to be the only one that I had Zero side effects on... Don't settle, Push to find the very best medications that allows you the best possible bipolar control ![]()

I have had a lot of trouble getting my meds regulated or finding the right “cocktail” as my Dr. Calls it. About six months ago I was put n Seroquel 200mg at night and 50mg during the day. It worked pretty well for a while; then last week he had to change it to 800 mg Seroquel XR because I haven’t been doing well at all. So I am starting a new game. The only thing I don’t like about the Seroquel is the weight gain; I have gained at least 35pds; so I’m looking at possibly joining weight watchers to help with that.
