After being out of therapy for about 5 months, I decided to make an appointment with a CBT based therapist outside of my pdocs office. Basic therapy didnt seem to be doing much for me, especially with the new guy I was seeing. I've looked into CBT and it seems it can be very helpful for some. I'm always looking for ways to better myself, and hoping cbt may improve my quality of life.
Anyways, did it work? Did you see any significant change? Am I wasting my time? thanks, Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I used it years ago when my OCD had literally taken over my life. I worked with a therapist using CBT. It hasn't fixed everything OCD related, but my life is so much better. I have not used it for BP, I really haven't thought about how I would apply it. It worked for me for OCD, so I don't see why it wouldn't work for BP. I really need to get a therapist and learn how to apply it to my BP.

My current therapist uses cbt and I've been really happy with how it's helped my anxiety. There's one specific phobia that I've had my entire life and no therapist has ever made a difference with it until now. The phobia isn't gone but it's not ruining my life anymore. I haven't really used it much for Bp yet dice my diagnosis is new but there have been myriad studies on the effectiveness of cbt, especially with medication. So I'd say it's worth a shot for you.

I am getting CBT and DBT from my t. I used to be really resistant to reframing my thoughts. Now that I am open to it, it's really helpful. I keep all my handouts in a binder so I can go back over them and think of other examples that I can apply the techniques to. It's a life changer if you are stuck in certain patterns but willing to see other points of view.

I am taking it now. It has been very helpful thus far. I am amassing a real war chest of tools and coping strategies.
My only 'warning' is to point out that it IS work. You really need to make an effort, be willing to do so, and be prepared for a lot of daily homework. If you're not prepared or aren't ready to work and want to change then it won't be right for you. However, given an attitude of willingness to work and I think it will help. |
