Yes I smoke. I'm up to almost a pack a day since I'm not working :-/ and my son is starting to comment on it so I really need to quit. I'm not ready to quit yet though. I quit in August for about three months but went back to it in December because I was so bummed about the holidays.

No, never. My Dad smoked 3 packs a day and I vowed that I would never do that. He stunk and coughed and our house always smelled

Sadly, yeah I smoke. I have roughly five to six cigarettes a day. I want to quit though. I've quit three times before. I'm getting some lozenges on friday.

Yes, about 1/3 pack per day. I see quitting in my near future though. I've quit twice before and started again.

Not at all. I don't like the smell of it either and I go out of my way to get around it when walking to and from work. I will cross the street to avoid that person. Plus, who needs that added expense...

Yes I smoke, unfortunately itsit's the only addiction I cant get rid of, it seems like when I dont have a smoke I cant control anything else, I completely and utterly dependent on cigarettes. But id rather smoke than to lose my mind , a pack a day keeps the phyc hosptial away. (Sick sense of humor)

I know this is going to sound strange...

I don't smoke (never have), but I like the smell of it, as long as it's not the really cheap kind.

I don't go out of my way to smell smoke, but living in a city, I pass by smoke clouds every so often.

Yes!! I am all for using nicotine. Protects our cells in a few different ways. Cigarettes are not ideal, I guess.

Cardiovascular issues and COPD aside (so quite a risk still), it is less risky for us and just the nicotine is good for us. Lower incidence of (long) cancer, while about 60% of BP people smoke and about 80% of those with SZ. SZA/BP probably right in the middle (as with pretty much everything).

I other words, most likely, our cells die so fast, sometimes together with an overactive immune system, that cancer has little chance. Somewhat analogous to how more evolutionary pressure, less likelihood of survival, will lead to fitter descendants (analogy might not be that perfect because evolution will in (Darwinian) theory stall with too much pressure, while our cells shouldn't change when dividing or through damage).

When manic, I absolutely need to smoke or use nicotine gum. Continuous smoking works as good as 300-400 mg quetiapine I think or a similarly considerable amount of haloperidol. Not as good as a mood stabiliser. It works a bit like both. Combine with lots of caffeine to stay in control (longer).

However, since there are probably many different genetic and biochemical changes that (together with stress and/or substance abuse) cause BP and SZ, it might not be for everyone.

It also makes me feel less guilty because of the astronomical excise duty levied.

That's what helped me quit in August. I'm gonna go back to it but I need to get a new setup. Right now all I have is the blu ecigs. They're not very good.

I used one of those $30 starter pen-style vapes last summer for a couple of months until it broke (or rather ... I broke it one night while I was hammered). As of a couple of weeks ago I've been using a nicer vape (it's called a Cool Fire IV + and I got it for like $80).

Health-wise it's a LOT better, no coughing / wheezing and you don't have to walk around smelling like an ash tray. Plus you can use it inside which is nice when the weather's bad or whatever.

I use .8% and 1.2% juice and it gives you a great, clean buzz. I always smoked full-bodied, non-menthol cigarettes (Marlboro Reds and American Spirit Dark Blues) and I haven't found any e-juice flavor that does a good job of mimicking those tastes but I've tried a bunch of different fruit and tea flavors that I like quite a bit.

Just go to a vape store near wherever you live and ask the people who work there to set you up with up with a decent starter set. I usually go to a chain called AVAIL Vapor (they used to only be in Virginia but I think they've expanded quite a bit in the mid-atlantic region over the last year or so).

Blegh. Blu ecigs / NJOY / any other 7-11 gas station brand of vape suck tremendously. If you're going to switch over to vapes it's definitely worth spending $50 or so on a decent starter setup and e-juice flavor you enjoy. (Sounds kind of pricy at first but if you consider how much buying a new pack of cigs every day or every couple of days costs you realize that it will ultimately save you a lot of money rather quickly).

I vape everyday and allow myself one cigarette as the buzz is better than vaping. Still I intend to quit by my 40th Bday in late April. It costs too much, even just vaping.

I find nicotine clears my head and does help when stressed so I am practicing new coping skills to be able to manage without it.

I quit regular ciggies two years ago and vaping a week and a half ago. I definitely think it is worth it to switch to vaping if you don't want to quit, but I found myself using it all day every day and it started making me feel like crap.
So I read Allen Carr's 'Easy way to stop smoking' and it helped tremendously. I am so grateful not to be vaping/smoking anymore. I certainly get cravings but they pass, and I'm not using nicotine gum or zyban or anything. I highly recommend this book when you're ready to stop.

Yeah you have to be careful about not sitting around vaping constantly. I only use mine in the evenings after work and limit myself to refilling the tank no more than twice.

Anyone else?. I think the response has been piss poor for this topic.

60% of tobacco products are consumed by the mentally ill. That is a lot of people.
I would have been happy getting a 5% of the 60%.

If it doesn't happen, I'll tell my story tonight. In a thread called Nicotine II My Story.

Haven't you got the percentages mixed up!? What does count as mentally ill for you (or those doing the study)? I wouldn't say about half of those I come across that smoke are mentally ill (then again I would call 0% mentally ill of the general population).

I would say many are having anxiety issues due to caring too much.

Yes, about a pack a day or more if I'm hypo. Hey quitting is easy, I've done it a million times! It's my security blanket but in all honesty I do wish I was ready to quit. Mostly because of the smell b

Yes I do. I've given up alcohol and caffeine, but can't seem to quit these filthy sticks. When manic (which I am right now) I smoke constantly.

I've tried to quit several times but rarely get past the 1 month mark. I become very anxious and suicidal when attempting to quit. As sad as it is to say, nicotine must have some sort of therapeutic quality for me. I've read the statistic regarding the correlation of smoking and mental illness. It doesn't surprise me at all. I wonder if there is any scientific research which explains why. I'm an information ***** so I should look that up!

I've tried quitting with vapor cigs before and they helped a bit but I wasn't able to get a big enough drag from them, and they always left me "wanting". My sons friend recently got one of the vape boxes which release a TON of vapor. He let me try it and it was very satisfying. I plan to buy one soon and it just might be exactly what I need.

I look forward to your later post and story.

I've smoked a pack a day off and on for 20+ years. I got a vape and eventually weaned myself of the nicotine. I found it too much of a stimulant and with my anxiety issues stimulants are a no-go. I still have cravings occasionally but otherwise have been fine.
