I've been working full time for five years, since I graduated college. While I was in college I worked part time in retail. Currently I am a high school teacher though I just got approved as a middle school teacher. I've had to take tons of time off due to my illness but I'm hoping with this new job I'll be more stable because it won't be as stressful.

I worked for three years, The frirst year I jumped jobs multiple times. My most recent job was a computer tech job. I had times where My ups were so bad I'd try to destroy the car and wound up cutting myself up real bad. I had weeks were I would Be so depressed that I would wish that I would get into a car accident and not survive. These emotions were so bottled up and I would ruminate on them so bad that I would not be able to think. I recently left that job. But I do want to say everyone's experiences are different. You will not experience what I experienced nor will I ever experience your experiences. We may be similar but never exact. Sorry about the tangent but to answer your question I am currently unemployed .

That is the hardest work of all but also the most rewarding I am sure. You are a truly wonderful person to care for your mother like you do.

I'm now working freelance (which has amounted to 3 days a week) mostly due to back pain that doesn't allow me to stand for very long, and I often need to for my job.
Financially it really sucks, but other than that it's really helped with my back pain, and although it's a very stressful job, I think the days off during the week really help my mental health. I eventually did get intermittent FMLA at my previous (full time) job because my boss there used to give me a lot of grief about the time I took off for appointments (pdoc, therapist, pain doc), so I got it for appts. only. Very helpful. HR got all the info, but my boss was given no info on why I was granted FMLA. |

Dipping into my 401K isn't a bad idea. If you leave the position due to disability, can you collect unemployment? I always thought you could only collect if you were fired. Thanks for sharing, though. It's helpful to feel less alone in this. |

I've been on disability for about three years. Prior to that I was in a really good job with the government. Now I have no degree and my job skills are iffy due to the meds. I know my ability to handle stress is kaput. It's going to get interesting when my disability is up for review. I also have a husband with MS so I'm keeping an eye on him as well.

Thanks Amy. I will have to do some more research on what that looks like in my state, but that really helps.

I just started working part time for the city...my back is what's make ng it hard, not the MI I'm mentally stable for the first time since my 20's. Well I wasn't so stable back then but I didn't know it. I worked full time went to school full time until I dropped out to get married but continued working. Then when I was 28 everything went kaput and I ended up on disability...I'm still on it but I tried many times to go back, always full time which in retrospect was the mistake. It's usually all or nothing for me.
I feel like such a failure seeing as how many of you are working full time.

No. I worked full-time until I couldn't take it anymore and got myself unceremoniously kicked out of the rat race. I haven't worked in over two years and am on disability. I wish I could work and make the kind of money I used to, but it's not in the cards, and even if I do go back to work someday, it won't be as a nurse. I can't handle the stress.

I'm working full time in a bank right now. My current job is definitely not what I want to be doing long term but it has its perks.
I don't seem to have an issue holding down a job as much as sticking with a job. I get bored and need to move on after a certain period of time and if there is no upward movement for me then I leave for another company. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
