Having such a crappy memory has really screwed me over today. I started the day not being able to find my train ticket, which has about six rides left. So I bought a one day pass, but of course I left it on the train this morning which forced to buy yet another ticket to ride home right now. I've screwed myself out of about $70 worth of train fare. I don't exactly live nearby my office which is why I only go in a couple of days a week, its expensive! My memory is getting worse by the day.
I know most of us have memory issues, do they just mess up a few things like leaving something at home, or do they have a larger impact like financial, relationships, etc? Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk |

My memory has always been kinda crappy.
I guess its a common thing with bipolar. It can be a problem with relationships for sure.

Between BP and ADHD, my memory is complete s***
I talked to my therapist about how I could work with s**tty memory. He told me he has a small box by his bedroom door where he keeps his most important things -- cell phone, keys, wallet, etc.. Then when he needs to go looking for them, he knows to look in the box. You could get your own box and put your train pass in there, along with your keys and other stuff. It doesn't have to be a fancy box either. Just grab an Amazon box or something, and replace it with a nicer box later ![]() |

They have some games that help with what they call working memory. Lumosity, Fit Brains and Elevate are all free apps that help with developing a better memory. Helps me some, hopefully it will help someone out there too.

I had a really good memory until I started meds, I think they're messing with my memory a bit. It could also be the two ODs I've had as well, I think the psych that I seen in the ER told me it can mess up memory... Now I've had to start writing things down on the calendar, and keep a planner (which I keep forgetting I even have) to remember things, especially appointments. I'm only 24, my memory be like this...

When I first noticed this and questioned it I asked my pdoc at the time. He said it was most likely due to the high Trileptal dosage. And of course the more they add, the worse it gets. Is it really worth it? I have everything I want, I need this cocktail.

Ugh, I hated the memory issues, it was honestly a trauma all unto itself!
Thank God my stellar memory has returned after I ditched the lithium. No more notes, reminders and lists. So sorry you're experiencing this, I remember how difficult it was for me. ![]()

I set up a "meeting" on my phone to write down notes and remind me of things. For example, let's say I need to remember to pay my monthly car bill. Then I make a meeting called "pay car bill" and set it for the date/time I want. Then I change the calendar settings on my phone to send an "alert" every time my "meeting" comes up. You can also tell your phone to send an alert every day for X days before the meeting starts, which I do sometimes. I do this for important things. ![]() I used to have Andriod, so I know you can do it with the Google Calendar app. The default calendar is s*** |

yep, lanyards are a lifesaver
![]() I had bought a nice case for my phone. It's black. But I kept losing my phone, so I bought an obnoxious yellow case that's not as nice. It's stupid looking because it looks like a banana... but I guess I can always find my banana phone. Anything and everything that can be lost now has something neon on it. ![]() Edit: at this rate everything will be neon and I'll probably start losing things again. But right now I have like 7 things with neon on them. Not too bad ![]() |

I often enough forget things my best friend tells me, luckily she's very understanding and doesn't take it personally, my brother, though, can get frustrated with me.
I put a list (post-it) on my front door with a list of everything important I have to do before leaving for the day (i.e. taking meds, etc.) and everything I need to bring to work (including keys, etc.). I don't know if that would help you. I also have a basket next to my door with important things in it. Yesterday, I had to work in a new clinic and I forgot how to spell the name of the street, so of course my gps couldn't find it. It didn't occur to me that I had misspelled it, had to call the office to get directions (I have no sense of direction so this scared me). I felt like such an utter idiot when I found out I had spelled it wrong. I make mistakes all the time due to memory issues and it's very embarrassing. Luckily I haven't had financial issues so far except forgetting to pay bills on time. I try and remind myself that I'm doing the best I can and that's all I can expect of myself (except for all of the reminders I put everywhere). Hugs to you! |

My biggest issue right now is with words, I'll be talking and forget the word I need to use, it's happened a lot lately, the person I'm talking to has to help me try to figure out what I'm trying to say!
