I'm starting to think I'm just lazy.
Was on Effexor. Still just layed around.
Now I'm off Effexor. Still in bed.
I just am not motivated. Have no excuse. I've got workers. Money. Projects to do.
For a long time people around me ( inc Pdocs ) were happy to have me on my couch watching tv. Anything was better than my manic side.

Now I'm thinking no meds have been good. Same story, except I notice the side effects lift. ( like constant hunger or no sex drive)
But the under lieing problem is same on or off meds. I've been on a million different meds - had bipolar for decades.

I have been @bed ridden" for almost a year. Sometimes I do get spurts of motivation and get up and do stuff but my place is still a mess and if it isn't work I usually don't get up. My t and pdoc both say it is depression

I wonder the same thing. How much is laziness, how much is depression? All I know is I rarely feel like doing anything. Every day it is a battle to force myself to get anything done.

Sometimes I wonder if there is such a thing as being lazy when one has depression... and how could you tell the difference?

I've been in that place where I wonder if I've become lazy, or just used to being depressed. I take Geodon and Trintellix (brintellix changed its name) and I don't FEEL depressed, but I do feel as though there's nothing much in life for me.

Would any of us seriously be asking ourselves this if, say, we had cancer and were going under chemo? Or had some other physical illness? I get pissed off at myself for barely having the energy to just get through the day. I think, for me, I internalize what other people say, and these "other people" are the ones that can't really grasp the severity of what we go through. They think that we should just "get over it". I wish it were really that simple.

I'm in the same boat. I feel lazy, and maybe I am a little, but the cause of my laziness is low grade depression. I just don't see the point in putting out effort when I don't think I will be around long.

When I am well, I'm not a neat freak .... I'm a bit of a messy Marvin. It's who I am. If I'm hypo, I will clean, scrub and organize everything, but stable.... I'm on the low energy side. I deal with Chronic Pain and sickness, and that complicates matters.

All I know is, calling yourself lazy will probably not help your self esteem. Everyone goes through periods of laziness so cut yourself some slack. society has about as much love for lazy people as it does murderers. It's not good to let yourself internalize such a label.

I think you are probably dealing with some low grade depression, but even if you are lazy, I still like you!

Be kind to yourself.

Do you have a routine? Any responsibilities? Having those force me to get moving. Are you still in Costa Rica?
Thanks for this!

I feel the same way I take vyvanse and you would think it would get me up and moving but it only does til like 2:30 or 3. sometimes five. I hate that it takes me so much time energy and motivation to do anything. it is so frustrating. I have changed my diet started excercising, taking vitamin d but still so lazy been bipolar for a year and a half and I feel like a bed bug.

I resonate with Elsa's response.
Whether lazy or depressed, we must work on self-acceptance, self-compassion.
Easier said than done, I know.

I know I sometimes struggle myself with this. I agree with Elsa though, it may be a low mood on the depressive side of bipolar, and calling yourself lazy will probably just make you feel worse.

You should get up and do something, (if you're up to it of course). Something small, like lighting a candle or taking a shower, you know something to just make you feel good. It can make a world of difference. (((hugs))) we are here for you!

I vote depression. You usually accomplish a great deal at a high energy level, so this exhaustion is a manifestation of depression, and who's surprised, you're friggin' bipolar. On the other hand, since every Jew needs at least two opinions on any given topic, maybe you just need a rest from all these deals and energy levels. That isn't laziness, though, it's wisely taking a breather. How long ago did you stop Effexor? The "laziness" could be a manifestation of a subtle withdrawal effect that will end in time.

Thanks for all the love and understanding.
I think I do more than I give myself credit for,and yes it isn't good for self esteem to call yourself lazy or depressed.
Just flew in from CA. Had loads of things to do to close both houses there down. Then shopped for staples( coffee, beans, rice ect. ) made trip here to ranch.
Picked fruits and veggies from ranch. Cooked a bunch of food.
Went swimming in ocean today. That was great.
Going again at high tide tomorrow.
So what if I answer eml and read p c and lay around while doing it? Right?
I have 12 1/4 acres. Yes lots of responsibility .
A wonderful cat and sweet dog. Brush and play with them daily.
Yes. I take 2-4 showers per day.
I guess I'm just judging myself and will stop. It's my business how much I'd like to get done.

Respectfully disagree. It's very important for your self-esteem to acknowledge that you are or could be depressed and to adjust expectations accordingly.

Is it laziness or bipolar depression?
