For those who don't remember the full criteria --
BP-1: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_I_disorder
BP-2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_II_disorder

My pdoc doesn't think I meet the full criteria for BP-1, but he labeled me as "BP-1 NOS" because I get psychosis (which I believe is a BP-1 only symptom?). Technically there is no "BP-1 NOS" category, but the "BP-1" part of my label is used to let other doctors know that I get psychosis and that I have SOME manic tendencies.

I'm more of a hybrid between BP-1 and BP-2 -- hence the "NOS"

I do. I took like 4 really long tests when I was hospitalized when I went into the psychosis. I was a person that didn't believe it. I do now though. After trying to go off APs. I've been diagnosed with bipolar 1 with psychosis and PTSD...

I was recently diagnosed with bipolar II by my pdoc. However, I am not sure whether I really believe in the diagnosis. I do have spurts of high energy and I have a history of having depressive episodes that last for days a time for no apparent reason. But I don't think the high energy really is enough to impair functioning. I have an ADHD diagnosis and always attributed my hyperness to that diagnosis. I feel like it's sort of a matter of opinion what "impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning" means. Because I've also read that with bipolar II, the highs can actually lead to productivity and the person might actually enjoy the feeling.

I have no idea, I guess it's BPI due to mixed episodes. Here diagnosis are based on ICD-10-CM
I have had my recipies labeled with these codes:
F31.3 Bipolar disorder, current episode depressed, mild or moderate severity
F31.6 Bipolar disorder, current episode mixed
F31.4 Bipolar disorder, current episode depressed, severe, without psychotic features

I was told the only reason I was dx bp 1 was because of the delusions I get, though apparently my.most current episode was a severe manic episode cause it sent me to the ER when I tried to kill myself back in January, (but oddly enough no psych hospital with wouldn't take me due to my vision impairment, or had any beds for me) I also had an episode back in October and the same thing happened OD and ER, then I wss put into a php program where my BP 1 dx was made and January was when it was confirmed. But I have more depressive episodes than manias, and usually I'm only hypomanic. So if it weren't for the 2 full blown manic episodes (an a possible manic/psychotic break in 2012) I'd probably only have a BP 2 dx... And my psychiatrist won't confirm whether or not I get psychotic features, even though I do get psychotic symptoms in both mania and depression... It's so confusing it really is...

P.s. sorry for the life story, I realize I write a lot until I finish writing.

I technically meet the full definition of BP-2 now -- and after a traumatic brain injury.

I have had a diagnosis of severe PTSD/CPTSD along with "atypical depression" most of my life.

I have a few autoimmune conditions, along with severe chronic pain.

The change to BP-2 may have been related to the actual brain injury and/or the stress related to the random assault which caused the brain injury.

I am diagnosed bipolar 2, and I would say I fit the criteria very well.

The only exception is that I get these mixed episodes where I'm depressed but with energy and racing thoughts and with some more mild hallucinations (shadow figures, seeing bugs dart across the floor, feeling bugs on me).

No question about BP-1. Mania, check; mixed, check; depression, check; psychosis, check; major impact on life, check; major departure from normal, check.

I think with each change in the regs and guide lines it gets more confusing what is what.
When I was diagnosed. ANY psychotic features gave you a bipolar 1 diagnosis.
I guess that is not the case now.
I don't know...it is confusing.

I do know that I am B1 because I have been hospitalized, hand cuffed etc. and had psychotic features...was bat **** crazy.

I've never had pure mania so I don't meet the BP1 diagnosis that way. My pdoc days I'm in a mixed episode but I don't think my symptoms are bad enough for that label. I think it's just Agitated depression but maybe that's what the DSM 5 means by a mixed state.

I meet all of the other criteria though.

When I was first diagnosed with Bipolar, I was my pdoc if it was BP1 or BP2. She told me it's BP1 since I have had manic episodes before. I think the diagnosis is fitting. Also, it's not uncommon for me to get mixed-mania/agitated depression rather than just "classic" episodes of depression absent of the manic symptoms.

These are not hallucinations, these are pseudohallucinations and they often occur in anyone with e.g high anxiety levels. But that has nothing to do with psychosis.

Whatever the term is. Anxiety would explain it. Have never had psychosis or mania.

I don't know. I'm confused. I don't even know what my diagnosis is right now. I think I'm diagnosed as bp1.

Was originally BP1 in 2010 w old pdoc. Had full blown mania w psycosis in 2012. Current pdoc uses BP2 dx code on my chart. Not sure why. Not really bothered. Loves all my bipolar pals, 1, 2 or NOS. Equally.

Currently: bp1 with psychotic features but I fit SZA better unless all my blips are due to high anxiety which I also supposedly have.

I quite clearly fit the criteria for bipolar 1. Have had at least two clear-cut manic episodes, at least one of those with psychosis. Yet at the same time, before these episodes, I mostly only had hypomania. So I think I switched from 2 to 1 over the past year.

My diagnosis is schizoaffective disorder, but for a while it was BP1 and I met the full criteria for that, except I had psychotic symptoms outside of being manic or depressed so that's why they changed it.

I fit the bipolar II but also have psychosis and mixed so Pdocs put bipolar I. I disagree but it is what it is, with my GP I told him bipolar II so my diagnosis depends on which doc I refer people to.
