Do your sleep pattern changed with the seasons?

Does your body require more or less sleep during certain seasons?

I take Lithium, Lamictal, Topamax and Risperdal. I take them year ago. In the fall and winter my body requires 13-14 hours of sleep. In the spring and summer I'm good at 7-8 hours.

I mentioned this to my primary and she blamed it on my meds??? In the fall and winter I will feel exhausted with out that sleep. But in the spring and summer I'm ok. I talked to my pdoc about it he said not to take Ambien (PRN)??? I was not taking it. Basically sound like he had no clue. I have another appointment coming up. I'm going to talk with the nurse.

I struggle in Autumn and Winter needing more sleep like you 13 plus hours sleep. In the Spring I need 9 hours sleep and in the Summer I only need 6 hours sleep. I'm struggling at the moment with the dark mornings.... I love the dark nights as it's an excuse not to go out really

Thank you Miss Laura....now I know I'm not alone. It must be something that a few of us must deal with.

I need more sleep in the winter months. But then it's when I'm most depressed so it figures.

I think it might be SAD. I just found an article that said it begins in the fall or winter. It came to visit me earlier this year. Right now only the sleep has hit me. I'm still pretty active after I finished sleeping. I had a mixed abt two weeks ago but have been ok since then. Me and my girls went to the Oktoberfest yesterday. We had fun I did not have to be talked into leaving the house. I have not be wanting to go to any mall for fear of shopping lol. Last night we watched movies. So right now just the excessive sleeping has hit me. I will feel real tired. One day I had slept 7-8 hours that night got up took my daughter to school and on the way back I thought I was going to reck because I was so sleepy. I made it home and sleep for 6 more hours.

I notice I get tired quicker with the lack of light, and it takes me longer to wake up because it's still dark.

Not only do I suspect that light effects me, but so does temperature. In the peak of summer I get sluggish, sickly, migrainy, swollen and extremely sick to my stomach...it exhausts me and I can't help but sleep. In the winter my bones hurts so badly and I feel constantly feverish, flu like and tired beyond comprehension. The pattern my husband and I have noticed is I become manic in spring and fall and depressed in winter and summer. I don't know if the depression makes the physical symptoms worse or if the physical symptoms make the depression worse....I suspect a bit of both are going on.

I agree with the temperature as well. I'm in the south (OK)....it gets very hot here. I could come home many days barely able to stand. I know the sluggish feeling your talking about. Then the rest of the day I just wanted to sleep. i barely ate

I bet the humidity is a killer!!! I live in Northern California and humidity is usually low thank goodness. I went to Hawaii a few times and was horribly sick the whole trips because of the weather and moisture in the air....couldn't leave the condo for long and spent most of the vacations in bed.

I loathe the late fall and winter. I am very sensitive to changes in the angle of the sunlight and don't deal well with the long nights. I have SAD and I'm now using a light box on the recommendation of my pdoc; since I haven't come down with depression yet, maybe I'll be able to short-circuit the whole thing and avoid it altogether. I'm also going on a cruise to the Caribbean next month, so that should help as well.

Yes the humidity is really bad. I've lived in Tennessee as well and it was bad there too. I keep it cold in my apartment. I do not like the heat. Lol
