No I haven't been med compliant. I have been on and off my meds for the whole 7 years I have been diagnosed. I understand the reasons why I should be but I just can't or won't. Which ever one you want to believe

What do you do at the weekends? Does it vary?

my weekends are mostly taken up by my two sons activities.

are you the type to listen to depressive music/movies when depressed or run the opposite direction?

I usually avoid them but sometimes when depressed I become unable to cry and sad movies help me then.

Do you get dry mouth from meds?

Has anyone tried to write a recovery story? I am struggling to write mines and wondered if anyone has any tips?

Well, I keep a blog of my daily struggles. You can try keeping a daily record of your up and downs through your recovery and put it all together at the end. Just a blurb a day can turn into a book!

Have you had any bad episodes lately?

Yes...in one of the worse I've ever had now. Feels never ending.

What was your first job?

Sometimes I'm too good and other times I suck at it. The closer the person is to me, the harder it becomes.

if you could be cured of mental illness but it required a complete memory erase, would you do it?

No, I would not. I would not trade the memories with my son for anything.

Are you functional or non-functional during depression? Or does it vary from episode to episode?

I am absolutely non-functional in my depression. It can leave me feeling crippled to where I can't get out of bed.

Do you take your meds every night? Or do you skip sometimes?

Sometimes I forget to take my meds, so in that way, I "skip" them.

Its getting later in the day. Should I skip the gym, or just go really late? (I usually go at 9:30.)

You should go! Workouts do wonders.

Has bipolar always been a problem in your life?

Depression has been a problem since my teen years.
Bipolar was diagnosed much later.

Do you ever ask someone to apologize to you?

Love love love it. In Scotland we don't get enough of it. I tan quite easily now compared to years ago when I would just burn.

Question: Do you find support groups helpful or unhelpful? Explain either way please :-)

I've had support groups that saved me, and ones that nearly killed me. It depends on who is there and what kind of personality they have. I don't do well with harsh type of people (who does) and some groups I've been to have been full of them.

What types of therapy have you tried?

Group therapy, art therapy, one on one therapy. I think that's about it. I hated the group therapy, it did nothing for me.

Do you feel your concentration is more difficult because you have bipolar?

When I'm in an episode, absolutely. If I'm manic, I often can't sit, let alone pay attention and hold a conversation.

What is your all time favorite song (I know its hard ).

I want to answer this too (if that is okay)

yes, I do think it's worse- and my reason for saying that is because it's affected my memory, so easily forget what i'm meant to be concintrating on anyway

so yes

bohemian rapsedy by queen

in the 90's it was a bit of an anthem for me, then it just stuck.. I love that track (and it's 1 of the few I know all the words too)

do you feel you've ever been treated unfairly by a therapist?

urg sounds like an unfair therapist. I hope you're with someone else now

to answer your question, I guess the scarriest (for me), was blurry vision. everything looking small and fuzzy.
question: when you're in a situation like at work or at friends, do you try and put on a brave face, or do you just let it all out?

Put on a brave face and get on with life until it gets way out of hand then I spill the beans

How do you handle crucial appointments? I have my PIP assessment in 2 weeks and any tips would be great I'm really anxious at the moment

Pretty well. I think you should just be honest, and it wouldn't hurt to put on a little "show" to make it seem worse than it is. I actually didn't comb my hair and wore raggedy clothes to my assessment just so they didn't think I had my act together. It's a shame that we have to go though such extremes to keep our benefits.

Are you lonely these days?
