Pdoc asked me to do a mood chart.
I am finding it very hard to do one.
Do you guys use them?
I have an elevated mood for the most part and have varying levels of energy through out the day.
Help!!!!!

I did at times just for myself.

There are some good apps out there. I liked Optimism Online https://www.optimismonline.com/register.php because it was one that I could personalize and had a way to also use it for journalling. There are others but I always came back to this one.

imood journal (for Ios and android). I HATE mood charting but that one was pretty good when I agreed to chart a few years ago.

I use Optimism Online too. It's easy to see patterns over time when you use it consistently, even if it feels like your moods are all over the place. I can compile literally five years of data with only a few clicks. I used to do a paper mood chart but this is so much easier and enjoyable. It only takes a couple of minutes, is customizable, and there's even a place to type notes about what you're feeling or what's going on in your life.

I imagine you could send it to your printer, if it's compatible with your phone. I don't know, I've never tried it. I just show my chart to my pdoc at each visit.

Me too, lol!

If you have Optimism on your PC, I would think it would be easier to print from a printer that works with it. I have it only on my iPhone, and like I said I've never tried printing anything from the phone. Hopefully some computer whiz will come along and explain it to us.

I tries using one on my phone for a while and it only irritated me as there was one more thing to do along with jaw exercises, shoulder exercises, life etc. So now I just journal every second day and read through it before each T appointment so I have an idea of where I have been at.

I go through periods of using them daily and then stopping (especially if I'm really busy) (probably because I have about 4 mood tracking apps on my phone). So on and off. There's one I really like because if you're down it offers suggestions and activities to improve your mood.

Try this link Optimism Mental Health Apps for Self-Tracking for the apps for optimism. I never used it on my phone so I have no idea how well that app works. I did use it on my iPad occasionally. It was okay, but I preferred to use the internet version on my computer as that was the version with more options and was most user friendly.

I once kept a chart where I recorded each change in mood. This meant charting the changes I went through each day. I did this for a month. It allowed my psychiatrist to see the extent of my anxiety or depression as it fluctuated and the triggers. After the month I charted how my week was in general. In addition to this I would make a small goal or task to complete for the week following and rate my success of it the week following. I still do this.

I really ought to keep a charted record of my moods, and I did try for a couple of weeks but gave up; another half finished project! This thread has reminded me I need to start doing it again.
I found the mood scale chart handy to show friends and family to help them better understand Bipolar.

I use moodtracker.com
This has a place for moods, sleep, irritability, and anxiety.
It also has a place to journal.
I print this off my phone and give it to pdoc and tdoc at each appointment.

Another great app to check out is "balanced". This one has you list everything you want to do:such as go to church once a week, make bed every day, see a friend once a week, walk three times a week, etc. It pops the items up to the top of the list so you stay "balanced". This one has helped me develop some really good habits.

Another app I highly recommend is the "suicide safety plan". I used to have one of these on a piece of paper, but then thought...hey, the phone would be a lot better.

I like Pacifica (really good) and Moodfit (apps). Moods, Daylio and Bipolar Daze slightly less (also apps). I used Balance to build good habits but always felt guilty when I didn't keep up.

I used to use one on my old phone; I forget what it was called. I stopped when I was stable, got a new phone, and didn't bother getting a new app (the old one wasn't available anymore).
I still chart my sleep though.
Thanks for this!

I'm using one on my phone, "eMoods", though i've been mostly flat with medication through most of that period. I have some jumbled info from before.. but its chaotic.

eMoods lets me chart elevation, depression, irritability, and anxiety on a scale, enter hours of sleep; presence of psychotic stuff, medication taken, and let me define another scale I use for paranoia which feels too much like a normal state of existence to call psychotic...

I'm using eMoods and have noticed really interesting patterns in my sleep relative to my mood designations. It's pretty consistent on a bi-weekly basis of increasing mood/decreased sleep (5-6hrs) then wham.. mild depression and then a few days of 7-8hrs). I've never noticed this before and right now I have no idea if it's the antidepressant causing mild cycling. The hardest thing for me is distinguishing between baseline mood swings and significant mood swings. Depression is easier since the flags are so obvious.. tired and those suicidal type fantasies (not the serious type recently)

I like moodtracker.com. I've been using it on and off for the past few years. Sometimes I look back. I like how it maps out your sleep patterns, mood changes (it even gives you the ability to choose 'mixed mood' which is especially helpful for those of us with BP), and it gives you a free space to journal, and you can keep it private. It's therapeutic.
Thanks for this!
