Hello everyone.... I’m really struggling tonight.
I started Zoloft 25mg last Oct for SAD. Over time my new pdoc increased it to 50mg, 75mg then 100mg. I started having bad side effects so I asked to be taken off. My pdoc said take 50mg for 3 or 4 days. Then take 25mg for 3 or 4 days. I did exactly what she said. Last Sunday I started getting flu-like symptoms and dizziness. I made an appt to see the pdoc and it’s next Monday. Today I started having electric shock sensations and headaches along with the other symptoms. I called my pdoc’s office. They had an answering service but no pdoc on call. I left my contact info. I called my pharmacy and spoke with the pharmacy. She said I was tapered off too quick. The pharmacist suggested I take 50mg Zoloft for one week then 25mg for another week. I have some left so I fixed my pillbox for a week. I’m just so disappointed in her. She’s new to the agency and my initial pdoc left. My body is actually going through withdrawal. I just had to chat about this to someone.

Tapering off meds is never easy. Glad your pharmacist was able to help. I trust mine more then I trust my doctors when it comes to meds.
Hugs and good luck! I hope you feel better! |

I tapered off effexor for 4 months and still had issues after that. Opiates I went off cold turkey and that was hell. Do not recommend. Had to go off them cause insurance would no longer cover them. I hope your symptoms ease up and you feel better.

I'm tapering off Zoloft right now too. I started at 200mg and am now down to 50mg, all in the span of about a week because I want off this stuff! I haven't had any trouble getting off the Zoloft yet. I'm replacing it with cymbalta though, so maybe that's why. Good luck!

My taper off of Zoloft was really slow and it seemed to work better than just going one week at a time. I would take longer to go off of it

I'm grateful that your pharmacist could help you. That does seem like a quick tapering your pdoc told you. With Seroquel, I get horrible feelings for two days after one missed dose, even though I've returned to the schedule for one night. This is the first of my long term meds that I'd really worry about having to quit without a taper. I don't think I'd have a problem quitting either of the 2 seizure meds I take for mood. I'm certainly not willing to find out right now though.

I've never really been on an antidepressant long enough to not be able to just quit taking it (yet), but I have beeen through some downright nasty withdrawals from certain antipsychotics *cough* Seroquel *cough* Clozaril *cough*. I hope the slower taper goes well without incident for you.

Thanks everyone. I took two aspirin with my breakfast. I do not know if it will help. I feel awful and I’m substituting all week as fill in manager at the daycare. I’m going to get some hot tea and see if it helps.

I don't know if it would, but I wonder if 5-htp would do anything for antidepressant withdrawals. I have no history trying it and cannot say I recommend it either. |

Well no one called me this morning from my pdoc’s office. I called them to find out who would be able to help me. I have a 9:15am appt. I’m in the waiting room and will let you guys know the outcome. I’m going to be polite to the pdoc but I’m leaving the agency soon as I find another place. I left a message for my case manage. He can help me.

Yes....the pdoc did not apologize....lol. She knew she screwed up. Basically I’ll be put back on Zoloft 50mg 7 days, 25mg 7 days then 1/2 the 25 for 7 days. She tried again to get me to take something for SAD. I politely declined and explained I would not be taking anything new until I lost the weight I gained from Zoloft. She said, she understood. I explained to her that I’m tired all the time. Pdoc said it might be the Ambien 20mg.....10mg would not work. I had a consultation with one of the nurses. She’s really nice. We talked about nutrition and exercising. I have a follow-up appointment with the pdoc in 4 weeks. I’m going to stop by and talk to the nurse again.

I'm very lucky that I have the ability and desire/addiction to exercise. I should watch more what goes in, but I just eat whatever and burn it off in the gym.
Looks like progress was made for you! |

When I was full blown manic. I stayed in the gym....I had so much energy. I was a beast....three hour workouts. I use to eat super healthy. When I started Lithium I would crave sweets and junk food. I’ve been looking up healthy foods on Pinterest.

That’s good. Last year I bought an Apple Watch then I hit a depressive episode so I did not really get to utilize it. I’m going to try to go without the Ambien. My complex has a 24/7 fitness center. I also have a Y membership.

Thank you all for helping me through this. I’ve had my second dose. The pdoc said it would be about three or four days before the withdrawal does away

For me I had a stupid new pdoc that told me to do 50 for 3 or 4 days then 25 for 3 or 4 days. I dog sick as a dog. I called my pharmacy they told me to start back on 50 mg. The next day I went to see the pdoc. She said I need to taper longer. So then I did 50 mg for two weeks, 25 mg for one week and 1/2 of 25 for one week. Yesterday was my last day and so far I feel fine.

When I quit taking it, it was because manic me had lost a job and therefore had no insurance for the doctor or the Zoloft. So I quit cold turkey. This before I was diagnosed bipolar. AD meds made me full manic for long periods of time, some of it maintaining for about a year. I don't miss the crashing that this would lead to for anything, but the full goose mania was delicious at the time.
